• Re: Workflow for H265/HEVC
Is there a way to link in Media Composer 2018.12?
No. I've been using Resolve to transcode to Avid friendly media too. Very fast. Honestly I hate these heavily compressed codecs that these DSLRs/drones/minicams create, they never look good once you start pushing them around. I get that it's cheaper but

  • Re: Source settings - sub frame audio nightmare...

The thing I find so frustrating is the time they must have wasted building that awful interface for the audio slipping? Honestly at this point it's a failure in management. Why are these half-baked features getting rolled in to final releases? It should never have made it off the starting blocks. It's just a massive waste of everyone's time

  • Re: 1080/50p on a 1080p/25 project

No worries. If you don't want to go 185 maybe try Prores LT. I've had reasonable results using this on H264 minicam footage. If that's the case then I would just keep it full res and avoid the hassle of conforming. LT has quite a small footprint. Good luck! Andi

Yes, potentially. As long as the timecode, duration and one other piece of metadata (eg disk label, tape ID etc) matches then you will be able to relink. What I would suggest is to make all your 50p camera masters 25p Avid media @ DNx185x. These are now your new master rushes. Add your metadata (camera roll/shoot date etc) and then transcode down to

The 25fps is correct. The audio is not. The issue is with the audio not the video. Avid is not decoding it and I am guessing this is a licensing thing perhaps. If this was me I would try and use Resolve to make Avid media. Resolve is very useful and as far as I'm concerned every edit station should have it installed as it will often play back things

Have also just looked up the spec for this camera and it seems the audio certainly can be recorded AAC so I would imagine that could certainly be an issue. Do you have the AAC audio codec installed? If you go to export a file do you have AAC as an option? Try installing itunes as I believe this installs the AAC codec. Andi

Just seen the originals have audio. Try Resolve and see if that will play them. If it does then it's very easy to make Avid media from within Resolve (and quicker than doing it in Avid too) Andi

  • Re: 1080/50p on a 1080p/25 project

The 200% speed effect is correct because Avid is playing back your 50p clips in a 25p timeline. If you wanted these clips to be slow motion then you would select the clip and change the motion adapter to 100%. I'm guessing you don't want to do that though. You can either leave them linked at 200% or you can transcode them to 25p using the option

It's just a total joke. They own Protools for goodness sake. What is the issue here with being able to slip audio by samples in the timeline!? I'm getting really tired of all the promises of great things, the whole "You've been asking for this for ages and now here it is!" announcements and then being delivered a half-finished

  • Source settings - sub frame audio nightmare...

Rather than the intuitive way of introducing subframe adjustments for audio i.e. doing it directly in the timeline on a per clip basis where any sane person would want to be able to adjust audio - what we have is this total mess of a system whereby I have to matchframe back to the source clip then adjust the clip with seemingly no reference for the
