Just to make sure... have you actually authored a DVD, and viewed it on an interlaced monitor? Looking at the output from Avid (interlaced) on the computer (non-interlaced) monitor can give you what appear to be horizontal streaking, but the end product is fine.

Not seeing the .avs suffix is likely due to Windows being set to not display the suffix... To turn on display of file extensions... when looking at the directory do Tools -> Folder Options -> View (tab). Great info.... I'm running basically the system (except nVidia GeForce 4 Ti rather than ATI), and I've stuck with AXP 4.x. It's good to know that there's still hope for this system to run the newer SW. (Even if it's unsupported; I'm only doing DV25 so there may be hope.)

Is it possible that it's being caused by a corrupt database on your media drives? Have you tried deleting the mdb/pmr files from OMFi MdeiaFiles? (Or when you said nothing is connected, does that include your media drives?)

I've been looking for Quicktime 7.0.3 (I can only find 7.0.2). Can you share where you found it? I had a similar problem installing 4.8.4 on a G4... starting from scratch fixed it, though. (Note, I did the updates for everything Except the OS and Quicktime... I wonder if there is another dependancy)
