  • Re: Uncompressed Quicktime Gamma/Color shift

Export from Avid as a reference quickltime. Take the reference file into Sorenson and convert to the file format that you need to deliver in. That should fix your issue. To chck to make sure everything is kosher, AMA link to both of the files (reference and delivery file) and check them in your client monitor. You should not see a shift.

  • Re: Bin keeps going back to top when I make a subclip

Thi is just the avid has always done it. Anything new that is dropped into a bin or created in a bin, goes to the top until you sort it. I have to make subclips on a regular basis and I need to do it quickly with repeated key strokes and mouse clicks. What I do is open a new bin that is as big as I can make it without it going off of the monitor edges

  • Re: How Long Are Your Timelines?

For me, it all dpends on what I'm doing. For feature work, my computer can easily handle a complex timeline of the full length edit. However, for delievering for finishing, the sound team likes to have shorter reels (20 minutes) as do some of the color correction folks I work with. Also, I like to keep the film broken into reels in order to compartmentalize

  • Re: Michael Phillips and Black Magic

Unless you need noise reduction, HDR or 3D, the free version of resolve is all you need. To clarify, there's round tripping, and then there's using Resolve as your conform software. Most of the time, when people talk about roundtripping on this forum, it involves editing in Avid, sending to resolve for color, then sending it back to avid and

  • Re: Michael Phillips and Black Magic

If you're going to be edinting a feature, there's a decent chance that you are going to want to edit at offline quality (either HD or 4K), be it dnx36 or DNxHR LB. If that's the case, do yourself a favor and use Davinci Resolve as the way to Transcode all of your footage before sending it into avid for syncing and editing. This has two advantages

  • Re: Is anyone making DVD's anymore?

DVD Studio Pro still works like a champ. I used it and Adobe Encore to create the masters for replication for DVD and Blu-ray on a documentary I recently finished. While both are EOL'd as well, they run fine on El Cap. DVDSP requires the install discs, but if you have a current Adobe subscription, you can access Encore and install it

  • Re: desktop video 10.7

I see that it is on the black magic site, but I've read a couple of times in the forums that Avid wants you to download it from the Avid website due to smal differences.

Well, considering that if you follow the registration process for the DNxIO the dropdown menu of items to register doens't even include the DNxIO, getting it onto my products page seems a little dificult. The displeasure is not aimed at you andrew, I appreciate the suggestion, just pointing out the obvious problem with the process. I like Avid,

  • Can't capture using DNxIO

This is likely a operator error on my part, since I'm also having the same issue on my second system using a BMD card with it as well (but on MC7.0.6). I have tested a reel to reel tape machine on the analog inputs and a camera using the sdi input and I can't get picture or sound to come into MC8.5 usinf the DNxIO. I've turned off machine
