Pace drivers are for the iLok licensing tool. iLok is a common licensing platform for audio plug-ins. Used by both Protools and Media Composer. You won't find Pace as a program in your start menu because you are only installing the drivers. Since your MC installer is quite old, I would recommend downloading the latest Pace drivers and iLok utility

The typical install flow has all of Avid's pre-requisite resources installed first and then Avid Media Composer, itself, installed last. Pace is one of the pre-requisites, therefore if you canceled the install at Pace Media Composer itself wouldn't have yet installed. Try going in to the Find window and turning off the Indexing services. The indexing services (bin/phrase find) run in the background and can sometimes eat up a lot of system resources. Particularly when you have very large bins open (such as music libraries) with 1000s of tracks.
