I've seen multiple issues with the Sonoma update. Even to the point of having to do a complete wipe and reload of the OS. Feels like a rushed release. I think it's best to hold off with Sonoma until it hits a .2 or .3 release.
Now this can be scary!… and break your workflow. I never, ever, update
everytime Apple releases a new OS, Avid takes forever releasing a new version of Media Composer that is compatible with the new OS. By the time one is released, Apple will have already released an update to their new OS, making that incompatible with the new MC release.
One thing that I like about Avid is that
It would be nice to have that option for both importing and linking. (I have no idea how hard or easy that would be to implement.)
I see your point, smrpix. Still, I'm trying to think of a real benefit. Importing a doesn't take much disk space. Unless you're editing a rough cut with temporary stills

In my workflows, I exclusively link to footage, but frequently I'll
editing in HD or UHD and just changing the raster for final render/delivery should also be in your possible workflow options -- that's what I'd do for offline, personally, then just duplicate your final timeline, switch it to your deliv
How exactly does this work?

Thanks! That's what I thought.

Hello! I'm beginning to work on a new project. The intended output format will be close to Univision - 2:1 aspect ratio, maybe a 4000x2000 raster - a first for me. All the footage is shot in DCI 4K @ 24 fps. What would be the best raster dimension fo edit this project? - a custom 4000 x 2000 and resize all the footage - 4K DCI and export to 4000

It does. Just make sure the Timeline window is active, otherwise, it won't!
