As I await future Avid historians to unlock this time capsule of a thread in the year 2029 and explain what .amb files do and how they could prove useful in an investigation of where the transcoded files went, I would just like to set the record straight that manual database intervention was only resorted to *after* clips were observed not showing up

Yeah I wasn't sure if that "Ignore characters after last occurrence" box was for text (like ".new") or for a numeric value (like 9, as in ignore text after 9 characters into the clip name). The only one I've gotten to work at relinking this week was the latter numeric type, but in the case of a bin of transcodes containing

So my question is if the transcoded source name adds ".new.01" to the end of the newly generated clip name, I have to remove the ".new.01" or else the sequence won't relink since the sequence references the linked (AMA) clip without the ".new.01"?
-
Sorry I meant when relinking using the "Selected items in ALL open bins" where the sequence is in one bin and the transcoded clips are all selected in another bin.
-
What's the procedure for relinking to transcodes with the .new.01 added to the end of the clip name? Do you remove the .new.01 from the name first before relinking so that Relink can match the clip name? Or is there a setting within the Relink dialog to ignore .new.01?
-
Yes for example there's a clip with the link icon called GH010030.new.01 And in the folder /Users/Shared/AvidMediaComposer/Background there's a file called transcode_dest_2023_09_07_17_57_07_610_GH010009_new_01.amb What do we know about .amb files?
-
Well the only reason I did the mdb/pmr part was because I wasn't seeing the transcoded clips in the bin. There were clips with the .new extension, but they had the linked icon rather than the regular clip icon and selecting reveal file from the clip context menu revealed the source file rather than the MXF.
-
Do the transcodes stay in the MXF/ __bg.1 folder? Maybe by me being impatient and moving them to a new numbered folder and deleting the mdb/pmr for rebuild by AMC I interrupted part of the process that would transform the __bg.1 MXF file caterpillars into proper MXF file butterflies?
-
Which means the 1400 or so clips I thought transcoded yesterday via background did not work. Background just creates .mxf files but the files don't go into the bin. Such a waste of time. Re-transcoding using Application.

Transcoding from AIFF. Finally worked when I stopped using background transcode.
