If you use a gaming mouse or a Wacom tablet, that means having to switch devices. Not so good. Also I find neither of these to be as precise as the hand tool. But I can see how a hand tool is a lot less useful without continuous playback.

Rest in peace, Larry. I guess God needed some help on Media Composer.

There's no XML route from what I know. Avid doesn't take FCP 7 XML, unless there is a 3rd party app for that which I don't know about. You can try exporting an EDL or AAF and importing that into Avid. Then batch import the source clips into Avid and then re-link them. The one issue you may have is the file names, assuming your AvcHD cards

Ah! Thanks! That was driving me nuts! Good to know.

Agreed. Hence also this feature request.

I do timeline to timeline edits a lot. Sometimes I want to make a change to the sequence in the source monitor, and I really wish there was a button to load the sequence in the source monitor in the record monitor. That will save me the trouble of having to go back to the bins.

You can try breaking it into chunks and use Automatic Duck to send the sequence across. What format are you primarily editing with?

Sorensen Squeeze Pro is able to transcode to DNxHD. That may be faster than Avid doing the transcoding. But the caveat is that you may not be able to re-link back to the source rushes the way you can when you AMA and Transcode to Avid Media within Avid.

Sounds like you used the "re-link" option. There is an option to "relink AMA files" that is somewhere towards the bottom of the right click contextual menu. You can try giving that a whirl. As Pat said, transcode them into Avid media before editing. Makes Avid more robust.
