I have requested that the patch instructions pdf on the patch center download page be updated to include the new procedure. Everyone please be advised that as of the 5.0.3.7r patch release, it is now necessary to uninstall any and all previous patches before installing the new one, even on PCs, as stated in the thread link that Chris posted.

You're best bet right now is to make sure you get to the latest build of MC 4. That would be 4.0.5.8, looking at the read me there were a bunch of render issues fixed with patch releases.
