I'm a self-educated editor who started about 40 years ago on U-matic and 16mm, moved through 1" C-format to BetacamSP to digibeta videotape using (primarily) the Convergence ECS900 Edit controller (still functional!) then to digital - first using FAST/// VM Studio and quickly moving to FAST/// Liquid Silver and later Chrome HD - both of which were the most user-friendly, intuitive NLE systems one could wish for, but which were bought up first by Pinnacle Systems, then by Avid, where they quickly became out of date and were sadly discontinued - hence the transition in 2014 to Media Composer. I still shoot on videotape (HDCAM) as well as other formats such as HDV, NXCAM and Canon EOS 5D. I consider myself to be an old-school editor with a keen interest both in classic production values and all that is new in digital editing.
