    Canon H.264 Workflows.

    Hi,

I've read a few posts regarding gamma shifts when editing Canon with Media Composer 5 but trying to put all the threads and tips together so I was hoping I would get some proven workflows for importing, editing and exporting this footage from Media Composer.

Primarily I expect the media being for Web consumption but I'd also like to watch on an HD TV too. I have the Production Suite and have also upgraded to Squeeze 7 and also have Adobe Encoder CS5.

    Thanks in advance.

Version 5.5 give you source settings for levels on QuickTime linked files. You can choose to restrict to SMPTE range (16-235), expand (0-255) or don't do anything.

In your scenario, your deliverbales are for two different viewing environments. HDTV is SMPTE 16-235 while web consumption uses graphics levels of 0-255. I suggest mastering to your primary delveriable. For example, HDTV so color correct everything to levels of 16-235, then as an alternate delivery select RGB to expand 16-235 levels to 0-255 when exporting.

    Thanks Michael,

Just so I'm a little clearer on this can you tell where the source settings for Quicktime files can be found?  If I use AMA will the transcoded clips use these settings?

I assume that as I'm primarily exporting for Web I will choose a Project of 1080p/25 RGB 709.

What is the best way to restrict the colour range for HDTV output?

    Apologies for these basic questions.

    Thanks again.
