Re: Is Avid MC x64 bit?

    BobbyMurcerFan:

I think we are just seeing another example Avid using its very strict interpretation of the securities law as it relates to releasing information about upcoming revenue generating products.

I honestly don't think that Avid is trying to be cute here or leave its options open for who knows what. They are probably just saying what they believe they can get away with while still staying well w/in the law. B/c they are commenting about a current product (MC 5) not an new one whose release is pending.

I think we ARE supposed to read between the lines and conclude what Avid feels it can't say outright. Is this speculation about speculation? LOL!

Interestingly I've just finished reading the Avid-L latest digest and there's a lot of talk about FCP users and their future choices. People looking at road maps of development. it's also been commented that Microsoft and others are very capable at ensuring their future product changes are known upto a year in advance. There's much talk of the value at the pivotal time of what path users should be taking.

If you don't signpost you won't attract as many of that current crowd as you could.

Pat, I couldn't agree with you more. As you say, many public companies release road maps, but Avid claims it can't b/c of securities law. I don't understand their position one bit. But it has been discussed a fair amount around here and those coversations always seem to conclude with something along the lines of "It is what it is."

It does seem to me that Avid's strict (perhaps overly strict) interpretation of the securities law seriously handicaps their ability to be truly competitive in an arena of increasingly aggressive opponents.

I have the feeling (no speculation here) that MC6 will be a huge leap in front.

    Greater than what MC5 was.

Personally I like the mystery behind every release.

I kind of do too. Of course the more that's added the more that can go wrong:

And the SmartTool doesn't seem so stupid now that it's been well tamed. It will make transitioning easier for FCP users.

Media Composer can be very close on dominating the video area as it does with film.

So if Avid stepped forward and said announced what they would do between now and - say - the end of this year, wouldn't all of us be asking: where is it, when can I get it, and what's to come after that?

Re: Is Avid MC x64 bit?

I stand corrected, the Avid statement speaks for itself.  I'm not an operating software specialist so maybe instead of 32bit, the new Media Composer or whatever they call it, will be based around 33 or 34bit.  Smile

I guess only time will tell.  And I totally agree that the smart tool that many of us are not all that fond of yet, will make it much easier for FCP users to switch over.  Maybe Avid should re-vamp the FCP license to Avid software buy program to capitalize on this FCP mess.

Yes, it was.  But back in 1983 it wasn't cut on an Avid, that's for sure.

Re: Is Avid MC x64 bit?

On PCs, MC5 is currently supported only on 32-bit Win XP, 64-bit Win Vista, and 64-bit Win 7.   So the statement "MC Version 5 is the last version that will be supported on a 32 bit OS" just tells us that MC6 will not run on Win XP or on any 32-bit versions of Mac OS.
