Is the proper way on Windows to intall an upgrade to media composer to uninstall the previous version?
Hi,
yes, that is the recommended way.
1.) Dactivate your software license (not necessary with dongle)
2.) Backup your Project Data
3.) Uninstall previous version with the avid uninstaller. You will find that in ProgramFiles\Avid
4.) restart PC
5.) install 5.5
Your Project Data will not be deleted when uninstalling the previous version. But it is a good practice to BackUp data regularly.
cheers

On a windows machine the new versions installer will detect any previous versions and uninstall them automatically before it re-installs the new version.
But as Chris says it's better to do it manually to be sure it's a clean uninstall.
Also if you have any patches applied these should be uninstalled first (basically the reverse order you installed things)
I prefer to do a reboot when it's uninstalled and to do any other updates required for the new version (always check the readme!) before I re-install.
