Hi,If you intend to buy Avid Studio and would like to use the Smartsound plug-in for this, do NOT order the plug-in in Avid's shop but order the plug-in at Smartsound directly.
Reason for this is that you need a plug-in code which is related to your s/n of Smartsound. If you order at Avid, you will get a new s/n for Smartsound (an E-number) while your S-number (Scoring Edition from MC Suite) has more rights. But the plug-in code you also receive will not work with the S-number ....., only with the new E-number.
Purchasing from Smartsound will result in a plug-in code which works well with your original S-number as you have to enter that number first before you get the plug-in code.

And... did you notice that the price for the plugin is 59.95 on Avid's site (recently increased) and 29.95 on SmartSound's site...

It is still 29,95 euro in Avid's shop ....., NOW.So you must have selected a wrong currency .....

When I found out that my plug-in for Avid Studio was not working with my already installed (and updated) Smartsound, I contacted Smartsound support by email (support@smartsound.com). After explaining and listing the various s/n and the plug-in code I received a new plug-in code which works with my original s/n for Smartsound (the one from MC suite) without extra payment.
Big hands for Smartsound. A minus for Avid's shop that they don't inform you properly ....

But this is the forum for Media Composer, I don´t think that there are any Smart Sound plugins for Media Composer .
Tomas
No, it is about buying a plugin for Avid Studio (AS) if you already have Smartsound (like MC-users).If you buy this plug-in from Avid you also get a new s/n for Smartsound - express track edition - which either makes your original Smartsound - scoring edition - useless or your plug-in .... .
If you buy the plug-in for AS from Smartsound you do NOT get a new s/n for Smartsound but can use your original one: this enables you to continue using Smartsound with MC and to use it with Avid Studio.

Sorry, I still don´t understand, there is no Smartsound plugin for Media Composer, Sonic Fire Pro is brought free with the Media Composer bundle
"... there is no Smartsound plugin for Media Composer ..."
The full name of the product bundled w/MC is "SmartSound Sonicfire Pro" ... I'm looking at mine now.

It may be a question of interpretation.
I think that they are referring to the fact that SmartSound/SonicFirePro are integrated directly into the other NLE's mentioned. As e,g, AvidFX, which can be opened as a stand-alone application or accessed directly as a plug-in.

Here's the story:
The new Avid Studio product has an optional Smart Sound plugin that you can purchase from either Avid Store or from SmartSound Store.
The plugin connects Avid Studio to SonicFire Pro allowing you to create music tracks in Avid Studio. The plugin is just a bridge to your existing SonicFire Pro software.
When you edit these music tracks in Avid Studio, you are re-directed to SonicFire Pro's Express Track interface to pick your music selection.
If you own the Scoring Edition of SonicFire Pro, you can also access the full interface to add multiple scoring tracks, adjust moods for the strata series, etc. - and when you're done, you just send back to Avid Studio where your changes will show up as a music clip on the timeline.
It's actually very well done - not perfect, but quite usable.
The licensing of the SmartSound plugin is tied to your serial number for SonicFire Pro. This means that when you try to activate the plugin within Avid Studio, it will only work on a computer with SonicFire Pro installed and that SonicFire Pro must have the serial number specified when purchasing the plugin.
If this sounds complicated... it is. So here's the problem and why the OP gave this warning. If you already own SonicFire Pro scoring edition, you'll want to benefit from being able to work the magic of moods and hits and keyframed audio within SFP as part of the workflow I noted above, right? This means that when you purchase the SmartSound plugin, you'd like to be able to tie the plugin to your existing SFP license...
If you purchase the SmartSound plugin from Avid Store, they automatically bind the plugin to a 'free' copy of SFP Express Edition (the one that doesn't offer all that cool flexibility with moods, hits and keyframing of multiple tracks). Purchasing the SmartSound plugin for Avid Studio in this way greatly limits the power of this features.
If you purchase the plugin from SmartSound, you can specific the serial number of SFP to associate with the plugin. In addition, as I noted in an earlier posting, the price of the plugin is cheaper on the SmartSound website than on the Avid Store.
What a crock - who would have thought?
Ok Steve, thanks for clarifying.
So if I understand this correct it only affects Avid Studio and has no relationship with how SFP works with Media Composer, is that so ?
Absolutely correct, Tomas.
The OP posted this here, I expect, because Avid Studio may be of interest to Liquid migrants (since AS is sort of the NextGen, I suppose )
Cheers

100% correct, that was the reason to post. This post is not of any interest for folks not having Avid Studio (like Tomas ).

Thanks to both of you, for Media Composer users coming here searching for info and help I have quoted myself.
