Avid Media Composer v3.0.1 is for Avid Media Composer Adrenaline, Mojo (classic) and Mojo SDI systems running on Apple Mac OS X 10.4.11 (Tiger). Customers using these systems are now able to upgrade to the latest v3 software while remaining on OS X 10.4.11 and benefit from full Avid qualification. Note that these Adrenaline and Mojo/Mojo SDI systems are NOT qualified on the current Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) due to an issue with the OS X 10.5 FireWire driver and therefore customers should NOT upgrade their OS X past 10.4.11. Further, new Apple workstations shipping with Max OS X 10.5 (Leopard) are NOT qualified with Adrenaline and Mojo classic systems. Customers wishing to use Avid hardware with the latest Apple hardware and software MUST upgrade to Avid Nitris DX and/or Avid Mojo DX hardware. This release is ONLY for Media Composer Adrenaline/Mojo/Mojo SDI customers on the Mac. All other customers and customers using the new systems should continue to use v3.0. Important Note - Please also be aware that Unity MediaNetwork v5.1 ONLY supports Mac OSX Leopard (10.5.3), so customers needing to remain on Mac OSX 10.4.11 to support their editing workstations should not upgrade their MediaNetwork shared storage. Both ISIS 1.4 and 1.5 currently have support for both Mac OS Leopard (10.5.3) and Tiger (10.4.11).Here is a link to the ISIS & MediaNetwork Compatibility Matrix, which is on the external Knowledge base:
This editing application has been updated to qualify the Macintosh® Tiger® v10.4.11 OS with the Mojo, Mojo SDI and Adrenaline Input/Output hardware. This release should only be used for Avid Media Composer with a Mojo, Mojo SDI or Adrenaline Input/Output hardware.

Thanks for the info Todd, I have a couple of systems I'll be upgrading in the morning.
WWLD?
This is good news...I have been anxious to try the new saoftware.
However...
I was very excited to get the opportunity to finally upgrade to Leopard as well. I feel a bit like the rug has been pulled out from under me. Can I assume the Tiger restriction is a temporary setback? Or does Leopard truly do something to the firewire port that makes it impossible for DNA hardware to utilize? (Therefore the word "Never" comes to mind on the DNA box)
AVID man, AVID fan (since 1993 with version 4.5 - before multiple tracks!)...like to solve my own problems and I try not to bother anyone unless I'm really stumped.
Good news for us Mojo users. Not so good news for us Mojo users that have Macs that won't boot Tiger. But it's the rule of the game, and we can only blame it on Apple as far as Firewire bugs go.
Quick question: which QuickTime is approved with this release? The ReadMe states 7.4.5 which is what I assume - but since 7.5 came out some time ago, has anyone tested it?
Are there any limitations because of having to revert to Tiger? Which IMHO is a more mature and stable system that Leopard.
Kudos to Tewks!
"....we can only blame it on Apple as far as Firewire bugs go."Some blame rests with Avid for relying too heavily upon a specific implementation of Firewire. Why is it that people with the Aja I/O are still working? Or the Motu v3 HD?
Yes, I know because the DNA architecture is doing much more. However conservative engineering principals dictate that you build in headroom to expected performance parameters. Avid just pushes the Firewire bus to the limit with no wiggle room.Give me the reduced functionality. Please. I have 60 new computers which I can't use with Avid reliably, and all of my 17 DNA systems will be useless.
Just upgraded to 3.01, I've used qt 7.4.5, from the page link in Todd's post at the top of the forum
Will let you know how I get on
St.John
I just applied the update last night and so far the system runs like a dream. Running a Mac pro quad 2.6 ghz with quicktime 7.4.5 and not a hiccup so far. The interface is so much more responsive!
I applied the update this morning and no crash or problem so far
The interface feels very good and what a dream that I can move several audio tracks in segment mode up and down on every track I want.
The only thing I noticed is that you can't view the source clip color and offline clip color in the timeline the same time, is it a bug ?
I miss the weightlifter and I liked that the selection in segment mode had a different color than the track selection but I will get used to it.

This has the ring of finality to it... I have to know something one way or another within the next month. Will this be fixed or not? The problem isn't limited to DNA hardware. Any firewire output is affected, including DV/ DVCPro HD over 1394, isn't that correct? I just need clarification.

brainburst:Avid for relying too heavily upon a specific implementation of Firewire.
Todd Sanderson: This release should only be used for Avid Media Composer with a Mojo, Mojo SDI or Adrenaline Input/Output hardware.

Possibly dumb questions:
This release will work without the Avid hardware in software mode, right?
And what about capture via FW without a DNA? That should work too, right?
Yes, works fine.
In agreement, Unity. In Disagreement, Discussion. In all things, Charity.
Is it best to use the avid uninstaller, upgrade os to 10.4.11 (we are in 10.4.9 i believe) then install MC 3.0.1? - or will it install in 10.4.9?
thanks!
Actually, the absolute best thing to do is to uninstall the app, Archive and install the OS to 10.4 and then download and install the 10.4.11 combo updater and then install the updated application.
Does MC 3 run as good on Tiger as Leopard or is there a performance hit?
