Move from AXP to Media Composer with JVC HD200 camera?

I posted this in the MC forum but haven't gotten any responses over there yet.  Perhaps that's my answer.  Anyway...

If I go for the $495 upgrade to MC from AXP will I be any happier in MC land using my JVC camera?  I shoot mostly mostly HDV 720p/60 with the JVC and have been handing off that editing to FCP users.

I know there are workarounds...I don't want to jump through hoops, just want to use Avid.  I also know that 720p/25 (I'm in the US) is coming in the next release.  Maybe 720p/60 will come along with it...(he said hopefully).

Most of the searches I have done over in the MC forum indicate I will be in the same boat with MC that I am in with AXP when shooting with the HD200 in any HDV frame rate.  Say it ain't so.

    Thx, JR

There is no additional functionality or support for any camera format between 'Pro and MC.

However, I always thought that 720p/60 was one of the formats that worked...now 720p.25...THAT needed to go to FCP.

I think you are thinking of DVCPRO HD 720p/59.94.  The only 720p HDV project available in AXP is the 720p/29.97 option.  I want to capture HDV 720p/59.94 from a JVC HD200 camera via firewire into Avid.

Thank you for your response.  Nice Infiniti spot by the way.

Re: Move from AXP to Media Composer with JVC HD200 camera?

FWIW, grayboy had valid points (in the RIP Xpress Pro thread) on expecting 720p/25 update in AXP Q2.  That is what it sounded like to me and I think a lot of others.  Unfortunately, not the case.

I can't justify a $495 upgrade to MC for the same lack of support for my camera of choice at this time.  Meanwhile AXP will have to do.

Someone, please send an email when MC has support for HDV 720p at 29.976 fps (that actually works as advertised) and support for HDV 720p/59.94...the JVC cameras have only been out for over a year now.

Thanks for lending an ear.  JR out!

Re: Move from AXP to Media Composer with JVC HD200 camera?

I have footage shot at 720/30p on a jvc-hd100. I just upgraded to media composer...I thought that this combo was supported. I have the jvc br-hd50 deck, as well. whats my best solution?

to answered my own question: I unplugged the mojo and plugged the deck into the computer directly...everything seems to be ok
