    RGB Color Space in Photoshop

When importing images into Photoshop from AVID, which color space is the best to use in Photoshop. The default is sRGB, but there are several other choices such as SDTV RGB, NTSC RGB.

    Thanks.

Re: RGB Color Space in Photoshop

one question that comes to mind is how do you export from avid to be used in pshop. Avid is inherently 601 color space which has black at 16 and white at 235 (RGB color space is 0 to 255). The advantage of 0-255 is greater dynamic range, the advantage of 16-235 is that you can have blacker than black (negative black or super black for luma keying) and whiter than white (soft clipping on cameras). So when I am exporting to Pshop with the intention of returning to avid I export 601, use default sRGB in Pshop and save as tiffs to use in Avid. If I am using an export from Avid to be used as a menu in DVDsp I go out rgb cause it looks better in dvdsp. If the export from avid is to go into Pshop then off to be printed then export RGB (or export 601 then adjust levels in Pshop) Let us know how you are using your exported files.

    Cheers

Re: RGB Color Space in Photoshop

I have been exporting in RGB, with the intent to bring the images back into AVID after maniputalting them in Pshop. Avid I noticed does not imbed a colorspace profile in the image. It makes me think that if i am going to export in 601. then I should change the settings in Pshop color setup to force 601 on import and not assume sRGB.
