🎞️ Avid Users/Support — Help Us Fix Missing Reel Name Metadata on .mov Files In today’s post workflows, embedded .mov Tape/Reel metadata is critical for relinking, VFX pulls, across platforms. While tools like Resolve, Premiere, and Final Cut correctly preserve Reel Name metadata from .mov files, Avid Media Composer does not. When .mov files (ProRes, DNx, H264) are AME/UME-linked or imported into Avid, the Tape column is blank, even if the metadata is present and visible other NLE/VFX software as well as ffprobe, exiftool, and mediainfo. This breaks metadata continuity across/between creative and finishing. We’re requesting Avid to: ✅ Read and preserve embedded Tape/Reel metadata from .mov files ✅ Populate the “Tape” column correctly during AMA/UME/linking and or Importing .mov. ✅ Maintain this metadata the embedded on export, as it currently does with .mxf ✅ Match functionality already standard in Resolve, Premiere, and Final Cut, Flame ETC. They all parse this metadata and use it as a source of truth for conform and relink operations.
