Ok, this is driving me nuts. I recently upgraded to a new M4 Mac Mini. I'm running Mac OS 15.1.1 and Media Composer 2024.10 (because they are fresh installs of both OS and Avid.)
In an existing project (pretty large doc with a bunch of footage) I am having a maddening problem. If I am watching footage and adding markers (as I do when logging), as soon as I stop the playback, I get an error:
Alert
"Segmentation fault" in thread
"MainThread", at address. 0x0
When I click ok, the app crashes. I have tried adding markers without the Markers window open, and that sometimes helps. But that kinda defeats the purpose of using the markers, since I'm trying to go through footage and log it (as I did on a previous system for years.)
I created a new user profile, that didn't help. I recreated the system settings, that didn't help.
Things I am going to try now:
Hi jason,
Created a case for this one Jason as it might be a bug. Case # 04919015
I do know there was a bug which was resolved when adding markers on clips with LUT and switching camera in source monitor gives an error, then crash to desktop on Mac. The mac resulted in a segementation fault 0x0 error. It was fixed though and if you dont have a LUT then thats not it.
Tech will reach out.

HI There! I was having exaclty the same issue. I talked with supprt and apparently is a bug for version 2024.10. In theory they are fixing it for the next version.
For now, version 2024.6 is working fine for me.
Hello, I had issues with this a few weeks ago. A workaround— not ideal but useful— was to hide the frame column in the marker window. That alone prevented Avid from crashing when adding markers.
Hope that helps!
