Hi folks,

 

I'm seeing video tutorials that seem to show Avid MC 2024 automatically transcribing media in the background when a bin is added to a project.

On my workstations, I don't see that happening -- I have to select clips and click "Transcribe" and it happens in the foreground.

Is there a setting I'm missing, a way to monitor this, or a known bug that might be interfering?

 

All workstations are macOS 12, Mac Studio M1s.

...following up my own post with some investigatory details:

 

* 24.6 is transcribing in the background, but it does NOT seem to honor the "Exclude from transcription" setting on bins.

* 24.10 is NOT transcribing in the background.  I cannot find a way to make it start.

* Transcriptions created in 24.6 continue to work when the workstation is upgraded to 24.10, but when those upgraded transcripts are Exported from 24.10 and Imported to another workstation, they are listed in the Manage Transcriptions window as <clips with no associated project> and do not actually associate with the clips in the project.

 

Would love to hear if anybody is having any success with background transcription in 24.10, *or* exporting/importing transcriptions that were originally generated on 24.6.

ok, it works in 13.6.5

My M4 MacBook Pro running MC 2024.10 on macOS Sequoia 15.2 transcribes automatically unless I exclude the bin in the Project window. One thing is, though, sometimes I have to nudge Avid to begin transcribing an existing bin by resetting marks on a clip--the transcribing will begin upon saving the revised bin. One thing my MC will NOT do with this combination is transcode in the background! I get an error message: the Production Services Engine is unable to make a connection. If someone has a solution please do tell.

Closing the loop on this -- seems that the problem of no background trasncriptions in 2024.10 was OS-bound.  Monterey macOS 12 it's not working, but it is in Sonoma, Sequoia, etc.

I'll guess this is among the factors that went into the unusual step of disqualifying Monterey for 2024.12
