Crash on Click to Display Waveform with Grouped Clips (Linked)

On the last two updates of MC (currently on 2022.12.0.56274.0), the app began to crash when choosing to display the waveform of a sequence containing Grouped Clips from linked media. It does fine with transcoded/proxy media. Obviously, relinking to the original files brings back the issue.

Interestingly, the waveforms display fine when toggled to the Source Side and also when editing the Group.

Source footage, in this case, is Apple ProRes 422 (utlizing the UME plugin).

Any ideas on how to fix it?

Thanks for checking in, Philip. Yes, a support case was submitted.

Avid's reply is that this is a known issue on MC 2022.10 and 2022.12 with bug number: "MCCET-4882 - Group Clip Waveform crashing avid in a sequence"

Engineering is currently working on fixing this.

The SOLUTION was to downgrade to 2022.7, which worked successfully.

THANKFULLY, the fix is also addressed in the next MC 2022.12.x patch and the 2023.x version of the software, so I look forward to getting current again.

    Cool, Thanks.

I'm a little confused... as MC 2022.12x has not been released yet, likewise 2023.x is not out yet. How are you sure these issues have been addressed?

Customer Care noted on my case (#04565980) that,

"I can see noted on our end that this actually just got fixed, so the fix for this will be included in the next MC 2022.12.x patch and the 2023.x version of the software... We'll keep the case on hold until the new version is released, that way we can let you know and you can confirm with us that this has been fixed on those versions."

Re: Crash on Click to Display Waveform with Grouped Clips (Linked)

Hi everone, quick follow up question regarding Avid crashes while editing from a Multi-Group with audio waveform turned on. In the MC v2023 documentation it says "Bug Number: MCCET-4882. MultiGroup clips with audio waveforms enabled caused Media Composer to crash." is fixed for MC v2023.3 but I am currently experiencing the same issue while working with MC v2023.8.1. Difference is, we are not working with Linked Media, all media is transcoded (DNxHD LB). Any recommondations, shoul I update to MC v2023.12.1 which is available on the webiste? Many thanks, I hope someone can help. Kind regards, Pia
