I just sat down to editing a new project and I can't import any media. I tried different types of media but nothing. I don't get any messages. Just nothing! it's like it is ignoring the request. I tried different settings and different projects with different settings.
Please help.

Hello, I need you to be more specific.
Please provide us with your OS, version of Avid Media Composer, and your system specs.
Also, What type of footage have you tried to import? What's the codec?
can you maybe send a screen recording of this?

Oh, sorry. I have a PC with Windows 10 pro, 4gh proc and 32 gigs of ram. Media Composer 2021.9. I am trying to import any footage. i.e. mp4, mov. I can import jpg, png, and audio, but no moving footage or cr3 raw photos. The Avid Media Creation setting is for OP-Atom. I grabbed some footage and dragged it to a bin. I got the plus sign as if to say no problem, let it go and nothing happens. I have uninstalled and reinstalled MC. But it does the same thing. Everything else seems to be working fine. I tried working on an exsiting project and editing and effects are no issue. I can export bins. I just can't import any footage. If I got some kind of message that would help, but nothing.
Thanks for your help.
First up for me would be file path or file name having illigal characters.
That caused MC to just ignore the ingest process.
I'd then open the Consule (under tools) and see if it logs anythinbg there.
For clarity are you drag and dropping holding the Alt key or not?
Without the alt key its an import and that has less support than AMA linking which is the prefered way to ingest most content.
So Alt drag and drop or use source browser and ensure link is selected.

Importing is one way of ingesting media into Media Composer, Have you tried Linking then Transcoding?
Here is a tutorial on linking in MC: https://youtu.be/hy0q5vu42ac
You told me which container your raw footage is in...(.MP4 .MOV). Can you get back to me with the codec of your clip? Also, as far as I know, Avid does not support CR3 Raw Photos.
If you like, I can test a clip for you on my Avid system, and that would tell us if it's a problem with your system, or your footage. Let me know if you are in a position to do that.
Hi, Pat.
The consul logs are interesting. Seems like maybe a buffer or memory issue. Here are the logs of the AMC starting, before I did anything.

Also, I tried the alt-drag clip to the bin and got this message in the consul log:
AMA Link To File(s) ------
Unable to autodetect plug-in for...
from Philip: You told me which container your raw footage is in...(.MP4 .MOV). Can you get back to me with the codec of your clip?
one of the mp4 was a download clip from youtube and some others came from my go-pro. I changed the file format from mpr to mov on the youtube clip.
And Linking from the Source Browser was no problem.
jbrad2orr: And Linking from the Source Browser was no problem.
After linking, can you transcode the linked clip to whatever resolution you want to work in? (i.e. when transcoding, pick whatever resolution you would've picked if you were importing.)
If that works, you should be good to go.

New problem. When I link to any footage then play it int the source monitor it is extremely pixelated. I tried different clips from different sources and they all do the same thing.

Yep, Do what Carl said. Importing uses a legacy engine to transcode your files. Linking > Transcoding is the best way to ingest video.
What are your project settings like? Right click your media, go to source settings. Play around with the "frame flex" tab.
I suggest you watch some more tutorials to get yourself more familiar with Media Composer.
1. Transcode the footage. Are the resulting clips - not the linked ones, the transcoded ones - still playing back pixelated?
2. At the bottom of the timeline is the video quality menu. It's a little rectangle that displays yellow, green or some combination of yellow and green. Make sure it's all green by clicking on it repeatedly until it is.
If it's all still pixelated after checking both of these, post here. Or if it's not, post here for that, too.
I'll be spending the next couple of hours rendering. Will get back to you as soon as it's done.
Thank you
jbrad2orr: I'll be spending the next couple of hours rendering. Will get back to you as soon as it's done.
Just transcode one clip as a test and see if it helps before you do all of it. Don't do all your footage without knowing whether or not you're wasting your time.
