Hi there,
I'm transitioning from Media Composer on a Macbook pro to MC on a Windows 10 machine. The Windows machine has way more horespower, is why I'm moving.
I've been successfully editing for about a year on my MBP 2016. But I can't playback anything on the PC.
I did a fresh install of Avid MC, copied the project files, and plugged in the same external drive I was working on previously. Launched the program, and everything loaded fine. I can see still images and scrub through the timeline fine, but when I try to play (space bar), nothing happens. Also when I go into raw footage and try to play, nothing happens.
Any thoughts?
Setup: Windows 10, PC Build with 64 gigs RAM, Intel 5460x, 2 NVIDIA 1080Ti GPUs.
MC 2018.12.8

My first thought is it could be your video card driver. According to the version matrix, with MC 2018.12.x you should have Nvidia 441.28. I'd check that first.

Those dual cards are GTX rather than Quadro, so the recommendation on driver version may not apply. Your problem may be due to the dual cards. Is the SLI set up properly? That CPU is a quad-core from 2015, so not exactly a spring chicken...
Using MC 23.12. Win 22H2 Avid FX6.4, Vegas Pro 20/ DVD Architect 6pro, DVDit6.4proHD, CCE Basic, TmpGe Express4, TmpGe Authoring Works 4, DVDLab-Studio. Sony EX-1R, Canon XH-A1, GL2, GL1, Canon EOS 60D
Ah interesting. I don't have the SLI ribbon installed, as I was using the cards primarily for Resolve, which doesn't want the SLI according to blsckmagic's techs. Should I install it for use with Avid?
I'll roll back the graphics drivers and see if that helps, just to be sure. But yes they are GTX not Quadra.
Media Composer does not leverage the GPU as intensely as Resolve, so most users rely on a single Quadro. I'm not sure there is a wealth of experience regarding dual GTX cards and MC as this is not an officially supported configuration.
