Mixing 4K and HD - Two Scenarios

I have an MC project from a few years ago in 1080p that has some footage I'd like to use in a new project.   I just shot some additional new footage in 4K.   I'm going to use both in a new project.   Is it better to--

    (1) Open the original 1080p project and bring in the 4K footage as 1080p.

    (2) Create a new 4K project with the new 4K footage and bring in the old 1080 footage, uprezed to 4K.

The new project (a TV commercial) uses equal amounts of the 1080 and 4K footage.   It will eventually be downcoverted in Sorenson Squeeze to a 1080p broadcast deliverable.

If your final project will be 1080, there is no reason to uprez original 1080 footage to 4k, just to turn around and down res back to hd again.

Bring everything into a 1080 project and get to work.
