I recently updated to 2020.6 and I'm getting the following error:
Exception: Structured Exception, ExceptionCode:3221225477, ExceptionString:ACCESS_VIOLATION ...
This wasn't an issue before the update from a 2019 version. It is only happening when working with effects, mainly when manipulating Matte Key positions of PIP positioning. Maybe it would happen more with others, but this is when it's mainly popping up and it's frequent. Happening in UHD 29.97 & 1080 29.97 projects.Any ideas on solutions? I already tried restarting, reinstalling Avid, disabling devices like my BM monitor mini, disabling OpenGL acceleration inside Avid, wiping the MCState files. I'm out of idea. This is crashing at least twice an hour when working with effects, but rebooting clears it up for a little bit and the error doesn't linger on a particular spot on the timeline. After I reboot and revisit the same effect on the same clip it works fine, but then 30 mins later, I'll apply a PIP and change the position or scale and it crashes again.Specs:Dell Worstation (approved)Media Composer 2020.6Windows 10 Pro (10.0.18362)Dual - 8core Xeons64GB RamAMD FirePro Card on recommended driver (A little old but I disabled OpenGL previews to see if that was related and the error still occurs)Blackmagic 4k mini monitor (disabled in device manager to test and the probelm still occurs w/out this being enabled)Using only local, internal SATA storage

Hi Blackburst!,
I got this one from another thread it might help.
C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Avid Media Composer\Settings (rename the folder to something else like 'Settings1' and then restart the Media Composer.
Thanks,
RalphC
Thanks Ralph, it's worth a try. I thought deleting MCState would do something similar but I'll give it a shot. Also getting the occasional RTTI error someone else recently mentioned.
It really sucks upgrading from a stable version to something that keeps crashing.

further to Ralphs post......
With Media Composer closed:
- Go to C:\Users\Public\Documents\Avid Media Composer\Settings and remove MCState, Site Settings.xml and Site_Attributes.
You can move these files to a backup folder/another location - I suggest the desktop.
- Go to C:\Users\Public\Documents\Avid Media Composer and rename the AMA Management folder to AMA Management_old
- Go to C:\Users\Public\Documents\Avid Media Composer/AvidSourceBrowserCache and delete the OPFrameGenerator.db file
- Go to C:\Users\Public\Documents\Avid Media Composer/AvidImageCache and delete the files
(you can move them to another location outside of the AvidImageCache folder)
Next, launch Media Composer and create a new Avid User Profile. It seemed to solve the problems and the only OTHER time I knew this happened was when an OLDER Nablet plugin folder was in use and wasnt 64 bit but when removed... voila.
Just more to try

Thanks Marianna,
I gave Ralphs info a shot. Heading home for the day but if we get another crash when we start back up, I'll try the rest of these. I probably need to clear out the AMA and caches anyway.
Best regards

Marianna & Ralf,
This may have worked. I haven't been back to that 4k project that was really crashing a ton, but over in 1080/30p land I've been cutting a 30-minute show and haven't had a single issue yet. And I've been using a lot of PIP, resize and moving around matte keys, which seemed to be the problem every time.
If I encounter it again when I'm back to the 4k project, I'll report back, but so far, it's been smooth sailing for the past week.
Thank you.
Unfortunately the issue is still back. I guess when my sequences were simple it wasn't causing problems, but as my timelines became more complex and I started using more effects, we're back to crashing every few hours.
I see this too, MC 20.6, mostly working with P&Z and/or after rendering effects, but I do not blame this on any particolar plugin, rather I blame the Effects Editor itself. I avoid fiddling too fast with the sliders, which seems to help a little, and I save often. Plugging in and pulling out external drives with the Effects Editor open seems to increase the crashes.
peace luca
