    release date MC 2020

    LS,

When will MC 2020 be released?

    Last remarks were "april 2020".

What is the status of the update?

Is an april release still on the table?

Furthermore I cannot use my dongle with the beta version,

even with the latest pre 2020 version dongle update.

    Am I missing something?

As one of the guys who invested in new Apple hardware to be

even more resilient and powerful in these times,

I very much anticipate the full release of the new software.

Thanks and keep up the good work,

    Noël van Rens

They posted in the Avid Editors of Facebook group, and Marianna confirmed on a thread here in the Community, that the release date for 2020 is 23 April 2020.

    Re: release date MC 2020

I am hoping to download and work with this version when it becomes available. Though I am wondering what the backwards compatibility would be like. My clients are running on 2019 build and once my project is completed, they'd want my project for archive purposes. Would they be able to open it and if so what kind of draw backs might they have?

    Best,

Every single version has been backwards compatible the last 20 years.

even with the massive UI change the last year.

to expect anything different wouldn't make sense.

I think AVID should extend our subs by at least 4 months for free. Not just because of the long wait but because for some of us, MC has been unusable since we got our new computers.

Not going to happen just as Apple isnt going to give you free applecare for the new computer you bought with the Catalina on it that has impacted so many developers.   Its not making sure MC just works but that it works with a LOT of things amany of which the editors have come to rely on.  Latest is 4/23/2020 for release.   Wish I had a better solutiuon for this but... we need to make sure it is right.  A lot of VERY complex workflows depend on that.

Mark, Avid's not responsible for Apple's corporate decisions, or our decision to invest in Apple's latest technology.

I'm grateful for Avid's responsiveness to Apple's evolution and value a solid product that many of us depend upon for our livelihoods...

    Dear Marianna,

Can you please respond to my question about dongle compatibility?

Is there a dongle update to validate the 2020.2 version?

If the update is to be released april 30th, my trial period will be over

and I would have a slight problem...

    Beste regards,

    Noël

    Re: release date MC 2020

Yes indeed, this is very frustrating.  I just purchased my new Macbook Pro ver 10.15.4 Catalina 16inch 2.4 GHz 8 Core i9 w/ 64 GB mem and can't use Avid.  I am using FCPX just to get work done.   I wish Avid would take into consideration companies like Apple who use their products and vice versa.  This is the reason why I use two different NLE  including Divinci which makes it 3 because of the companies not working closely together with their updates.

Apple provides the OS to Avid at the same time as the public gets it. What do you want Avid to do?

Thanks for the insight. I do understand but this seems like a very different UI build.

But that said, I am doing my due diligence by asking and checking before I make a purchase. Do I go with the 2019 build to play if safe but will cost me much more money because I will then have to buy a new PC/Laptop that will support Media Composer or do I wait it out for the Catalina release of Media Composer and not have to buy a Mac set up.

I would much rather stay with my Mac but if it's going to create headaches for my client.....

    Plus I like the 2020 build.Big Smile
