    Can't import media

The BETA will not allow me to import any media. Files I have imported in 2019.11 fine also will not import in this version.

    Re: Can't import media

    Hey Gareth,

According to the "What's new in MC v2020,2" document:

    You cannot:

    • Link to any QT movies using the following codecs: Animation, DNx with alpha, ProRes with Alpha

    • Link to the following static image types: .png, .psd, .bmp, etc

    • QuickTime Export (.mov, .mp4)

    • QuickTime Import (.mov, .mp4)

Hopefully this will be rectified in the general release version.

What does this mean, you can't import any file? Nothing works.

Can't import any files from the lists linked here. You can AMA link to some files and transcode them.

I can import .mxf files created in a Sony FS5 and X-70. .mov isn't suported in the beta, but I hope it is in the final release.

What do you mean by ama, isn't this the same as linking?

Yes its AMA linking but Avid decided to drop the AMA part so just call it link (but you still see reference to AMA in places)

    Re: Can't import media

Thanks for the link to the import/link inf: http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/Compatibility/Media-Composer-File-Type-Support-on-macOS-Catalina

I've just checked it and it's been updated as of yesterday (may 4). Avid says MC can now both import & link mp3s. Which is good news BUT my copy of MC refuses to do either (I'm running the latest: 2020.4)

Am I missing something? Has there been a patch that's not been publicized? Is this happening with any one else?

Have been editing film & TV on MC for 8 years. Any suggestions for how to get mp3s into MC are appreciated. I'd prefer not to have to convert my sfx libraries to a different format

What happens when you try? Is there an error message? What does the 'Plug-In' column say in the source browser?

The error mssg I get when I try linking via the source browser is:

    1. "The file xyz.mp3 cannot be linked. Do you want to import it?"

    I click "yes" and get

    2. "The file format of xyz.mp3 is not supported for import"

    quickly followed by

    3. "The file xyz.mp3 is unknown file."

at which point I go Confused

The source browser Plug In column says "Can't be Linked"

Is there a plug in I need for mp3's?

Cheers for any insight to this

Is this on the 2020.2 beta? (I ask because this is the forum for the beta release.)

If you fill out your system specifications in your profile (MC version, operating system, processor, RAM, video card, media storage) you don't have to fill it out for every post.
