    Workflow using UHD footage

    Hi Folks,

I've got some iPhone UHD footage (3840x2160 at 25fps). I have some requirements/choices here:

    1. Create a UHD master.
    2. Create a HD master.
    3. Use FrameFlex to re-frame and create a HD master.

Can I do all of this through creating a single project or do I require separate projects?

I was thinking the way to do this is to AMA link, transcode to a proxy format, then re-link once finished?

    Thanks

    Mohammed

always keep the same resolution and frame rate in your transcode settings.

Then you can change format/resolution within the same project.

Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry I don't quite follow.

In your transcode settings you can choose to match project settings or source settings (not the exact wording).  You should choose to match the source settings as this will give you the most options down the road.

    Re: Workflow using UHD footage

    Create a UHD 25p project.

Transcode your rushes to a UHD resolution like DNxHR HQ (or whatever you choose)

    That's your UHD master.

Flip the project to 1080p 25 within the Format tab

    Duplicate your sequence

The UHD footage will automatically have a frameflex effect added which you can manipulate as needed.

    That's your reframed HD master.

Use the same footage for both, adjust the HD timeline as necessary to reframe.

I guess if you're not making any adjustments to the shots then you can just export a 1080p file direct from your UHD sequence. Depends on how you're delivering.

You could do all this without transcoding too, just link to the files and flip the project when needed in the format tab but depending on how much footage you've got you'll notice Avid slowing down pretty fast unless you transcode...

Thanks guys for the info. Much appreciated. I've just been watching videos from Kevin P McAuliffe and what you're saying is making more sense now.
