    Hybrid network/hdd media

Lets face it, working with media on a network is never as fast as local.  Especially when comparing to ssd.

I wish one could work on shared projects where media composer cached or copied everything locally (raid arrays are so cheap these days).  So I'd get the snappiness of a local storage, but also updating of media on server (syncing) in the background or something.

There is nothing to stop you from hosting a project in shared storage but keeping the media local. You will have bin locking. The issue that may arise is the non-shared media databases. Meaning opening sequences and clips may behave unexpectedly, such as random offline, linked to a different version, etc.

A correctly configured shared storage for a given workflow should perform very similar to local storage. It just costs more money.

It would be nice if I could unmount this network drive.  I tried but its in the fixed section that can't be unmounted.  Media Composer should have a way to force unmount media drives (but be able to work on a project thats on the drive).

I'd love to work on thunderbolt nvme drives, and reconnect when needed.
