    Hi there,

    MB: X299

    CPU: I7-7820X

    GPU: Quadro M4000

    Memory: 32gb

    water cooling

    * system disk and media disk both are M.2 NVME

the system runs very good as long the waveform is off..

    any ideas?

Re: Waveform make MC impossible to work with

    Hi DONvito,

I agree. It's workable, but waveforms really make an otherwise fast PC sluggish. In other NLE's like Premiere or FCPX the programmers seem to be able to make the waveforms a permanent part of the timeline. In Avid it feels like the system needs to redraw the waveform part separate from the segments each time you change the timeline view (like zoom in or out, or switch from trim mode to regular composer). And it's especially noticable if you do a selection 'to the right' in the timeline (one of the best new features in years). Having waveforms 'on' often causes an absurd delay before you can start dragging.

You'd think that a fast processor, an SSD drive and fast graphics card would make an Avid system lightning fast, but for basic editing it's not much better than it was was in the nineties.

Re: Waveform make MC impossible to work with

There is a workaround if you like to use waveforms, but don't want Media Composer to have to redraw ALL waveforms all the time. In the timeline setting you can check 'Show Marked Waveforms'. This will only show waveforms between your in and out marks. HOWEVER... to make this work you have to do something to force Media Composer to refresh the screen, because of poor programming. So you have to zoom in or out, or something like that, in order for the promised waveforms to appear. Believe it or not, this is in 2018.12.8 (my preferred version) but even in the latest 2019.11 version.

    Cheers,

Re: Waveform make MC impossible to work with

It's frustrating, to be able to see the audio is very important part of the editing, it's so weird that avid don't improve this feature like other NLE's..

somehow in older MC versions it was a bit better, right now and with much better PC it's realy annouing can sometimes it's even make it imposible to work with..

i hope they will fix it some day..
