MC 4.05: Capture via Firewire no sound

    MC 4.05

I try to capture Hi8 with a camcorder via firewire. In MC I get a picture, but no sound at all.

When I connect the same camcorder via Firewire and capture with Windows Movie Maker on the same computer it works with picture and sound, no problem at all.

So there must be a problem with Media Composer 4.05

Capturing Mini-DV with another Camcorder via Firewire is no problem, I get sound and picture.

    What can it be?

Is the problem camcorder recording in 4 channel mode which lower the sample rate to 32K I think.

Re: MC 4.05: Capture via Firewire no sound

I set the input to 32 and 48 Khz within MC and changed the audio on the camcorder from 12 to 16 bit. Nothing works.

With 4 channel mode you might be right, because I can choose 4 channels which I cant usually do with firewire capture of Mini-DV (only 2 channels possible).

Its strange, because with media maker or an old sorensen squeeze I get sound immediatly. But the picture quality is worse than in Avid and I can only capture .avi which I would need to reimport.

I do not want to capture 40 tapes 2 times (1 time for sound the other for good picture quality).

Unfortuantely my analog Mojo seems to have a problem, on startup I get the error "recycle the hardware" and MC quits with Mojo connected.

If Mojo would work I could at least capture analog S-Video.

If you change the audio on the camcorder itr won't change the playback of prerecorded tapes. Only the recording of new tapes.

So the question is what audio do the tapes have.

If you can capture in Squeeze do that for a section and then use media info to see what the sample rate and bit depth of the audio is. Assuming Squeeze doesn't convert during capture of course.

Re: MC 4.05: Capture via Firewire no sound

They playback is changed in the camcorder when I change the bits, MC sees that and asks me to change the Khz, but still no sound.

The .avi file I imported from Squeeze is 48Khz (because I changed bitrate to 16 bits in camera).

Why is there no sound via firewire in MC when I get sound via firewire in Squeeze with the exact same configuration?

What OS are you using with 4.05? Are you running on something like Windows 10 and MC in compatibility mode?

DIY quad core I7-4790K, 32Gb, NVidia RTX 2060 Super 8, Win 10 Pro, MC (generally the latest or the one just before) [view my complete system specs]
