Hi All,
From the amount of posts in this forum I guess there are not a lot of Fastserve users out here yet. Anyway... Even while keeping in mind it's a new product I can't say we are off to a very good start. Now before I start another rant nobody might be interested in...
Any others out there that have decided to test or buy one yet?
Thanks

After a few weeks have passed, let me update this thread.
If you look at the FastServe as an EVS replacement, basically Orad playmaker it's actually not bad at all.
If you include hardware quality control, it's remote console Pivot and the Mediacentral (Interplay) and Nexis integration things get a little more problematic. And if you include the actual network setup and how it is documented... which is always the first thing you encounter after rackmounting and cabling...
The integration is obviously an unfinished work in progress. The question being who decided: "That's good enough for now to compile into to a release". The users will figure it out.
Hey Jeroen,
Im from Argentina and we have a lot of ASM for Ingest with EOL so, we will replace them with FasteServe Ingest.
We have here a FastServe in our lab and so far so good. I ll hope in the future Avid do a Uniqu FastServe as the Airspeed Family is.... Ingest / PlayOut ( Send to Playback from MC) in the same box... ;)
best regards!

So do I. But as I'm extremely cynical and negative today I will not comment on when I believe Avid will finish that project.

Having been forced into an export to watch folder workflow to EVS (send to playback not supported at high frame rates) we learned to love the upside - insert edit exports, enabling drop-ins to shows.
So my question to the FastServe community (both of you) is: can FS play back an OP1a file directly? So could you potentially do an insert edit onto the file *on* the playout server? Holy grail being the ability to insert into the file as it is playing to air (with all the danger that involves, obvs)

Yes.

Potentially yes if the location where fastserve stores its files would be a shared one you have access to through the network. It isn't. Fastserve also uses a watchfolder to ingest its material in its 'own world' and that's it.
On the fastserve itself you can of course set in and out points inside Pivot (remote console) or on a HDVC controller.
