Importing 59.94 fps media into a 29.97 fps project

I'm importing 59.94 fps interlaced camera files into a project that is 29.97 fps, and then deinterlacing it using BCC.  (Most of the other media is 29.97 progressive, hence my choice of project settings.)  My question is whether it would be better to change the project settings to 59.94 and then reimport the files, so that they come into Avid interlaced, and then apply a deinterlacing filter.  Looking at the output after deinterlacing, it appears fairly sharp.  However, I'm concerned that the 59.94 fps footage is being degraded because Avid is tossing out every other frame to fit the 29.97 fps project.
