I guess I'm a little behind but I just got an email that says Sorenson Squeeze has reached the end of life, it appears they are shutting down? Does anyone have any other info on this?
I received an email from Sorenson; they are giving away a free upgrade to 11Pro and saying goodbye. I've been using Squeeze for years as my only encoding software; have there been any discussions on this forum regarding alternative encoding programs?

Everyone....
We have learned recently along with you folks that Sorenson has stopped selling Sorenson Squeeze.
As many of you know, the Sorenson Website states:
“We are no longer accepting orders for our Squeeze products and all Squeeze services will be disabled as of September 1, 2018”.
Avid product team is working to figure out what next steps we need to take with Media Composer and Sorenson Squeeze and I will get back to you in the coming weeks with information once they sort it all out.

Hi Steve,
Is this free upgrade to version 11 Pro for everyone? Do you have a link to thhis upgrade?
Thanks!

Hi Steve -- does the email you received from Sorenson provide an email address or link for questions?
I would like to find out if they will be providing a version 8.5 download that can be installed independently of their server. I have stayed with that version because, unlike the later versions, 8.5 supports creating a progressive DVD from a 1080p23.976 project.

The answer would appear to be no. The links are for Mac and Windows versions of Squeeze 11.1 Pro.
[EDIT] I've just downloaded and installed 11.1. It was a quick and painless process, with the installer finding and using my existing serial number. But note that it's provided on an as-is basis with no support of any kind provided past September 1. Given that the same condition applies to my original version after September 1, I don't think I'll lose sleep over that.

Unfortunattely not for me. I'm on a Mac and the installer of 11.1 Pro tells me that my serial number from 10 Pro is not valid.

I have an HP workstation and a Macbook Pro and was able to upgrade them both from 10pro to 11pro. Download the file again and check the serial number.
The upgrade worked for me on my old PC too!
Just in case any of the people from Sorenson are reading these posts, I'd like to give them a hearty THANK YOU. What a GENEROUS and CLASSY way to exit the market.
Successfully downloaded and installed the 'non-activation' version.
My 'Squeeze Desktop Pro 11' was actually an upgrade (from v4.5) - which in addition to the v11 serial always required a second 'earlier version' serial for successful installation. However, when installing the 'non-activation' version (v11.1.0.203), I was not asked to provide the second serial; nor did the usual dialogue-box that referred to 'activated' status appear during installation.
The 'Help' menu tab still includes a 'Deactivate Squeeze' option but I doubt it has any functionality.
All that remains is to wait until September 2nd to see if Squeeze continues to function.
I can confirm there is a new installer on the download page "11.1 pro universal" and I could upgrade all of our Squeeze licences to this version. We got several 8.x, 8.5.x and 9.x. The "universal" version seems to be perpetual without an activation.
If you have an installed version of squeeze (e.g. 8.x lite), the universal installer will take the existing serial number, if you simply run the installer without deinstalling the old version first. You could also do a clean installation, but you have to insert your serial manually.
You can upgrade any squeeze version to the 11.1pro using the "universal" installer, which is a nice move from sorenson to end the productline.
so long & thx

Also keep the 11.1 installer in a safe place, I'm not sure if it will still be available online at a later date.
And yes thank you Sorenson for the free and easy upgrade.
Anyone with a Mac got the universal installer to work?
Mine is always demo even though it took the serail (8.5 & 10).

Hi Dom, yes I finally got it to work on my Mac Pro with the universal installer. Before yesterday my serial wasn't recognized.
Thank you very much Sorenson for ending with great class!
