I having trouble clearing foreign config on new raid harddrives on ISIS 5000. In Avid ISIS Storage Manager 4.7.4.15820, I login using our custom password, go into advance, choose clear foreign config. When retyping our costum password it shows up an error:
"Error: Failed clearing foreign configs
Password check failed"
The default and our custom password does not work. I beginning to think that the web browser blocks the command, since it complains about certification. Any thoughts?
Euhh... On Isis 5000 it is the LSI raid controller that manages the 3 raid volumes on each chassis. So do I understand right that you are not trying to add individual harddrives but that you are you trying to add an extra expansion chassis or multiple chassis to an existing chassis?

Sorry if i was unclear, but what we are trying is to replace an individual failed harddrive with a spare.
To do that on an ISIS5000 you need to use the Megaraid utility that you need to install separately from the ISIS software. In there you can add the drive as a hot spare to the storage group.
Check this out.

If you clear the LSI config file you will destroy the current RAID setup on ALL the drives, thus deleting all your data. Is that what you are trying to do? If you just want to replace a bad drive that has been rebuilt to the original hot/global spare, just pull it out and place a new clean drive. It is hot swappable.
If there is a config file in the new drive, "clean" the drive with a desktop Windows PC via Diskpart console.

Thanks for the help Jeroen and Dom, I really appreciate it!No we are not aiming to clear all raid data, just clear foreign config on a single drive. Upon installing the new drive, Avid ISIS 5000 management console warned about the disk ("foreign disk - missing spare drive") but turned "Unconfigured Good" in MegaRaid storage manager. Which we then followed the guide; http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/error_message/en413551
Ah I see. I was not aware of this knowledgebase article for ISIS5000.
Anyway... Avid send you a drive which was part of another raid set. Interesting... If both the default and special password do not work I would check the options if you right click the foreign drive in the megaraid utility and see if you have the option to clear the foreign config.
This is possible through a script in the MEGACLI which I suppose the Avid web UI also uses to perform the same task but I would need to get familiar with the CLI commands on this controller to give you the correct instructions. (I have used ATTO CLI with videoraids but I have no idea if that helps here.)
Besides the default is-admin password have you also tried the se-admin password?
Just a follow up to this and other threads where the suggested solution path via the webGUI of the chassis has no effect.
There is this high risk option, stress High risk since you must Clear the Foreing config/drive not your whole raidset.
Please use with care:
This process will manually clear the config on the foreign drive and you can add/designate as a Gobal Hot Spare.

Newer versions of controller Firmware, also have a Third option that lets you preview what the config will look like before you apply. Again please be carefull with this process, I am posting here since it may be missed and it is public information. Good luck.
This was a life saver. Thank you!
Davio: "Error: Failed clearing foreign configs Password check failed"
We found a simple solution to this. Change your Windows OS password. Reboot and try again. It should fix it and allow you to clear foreign config via Storage Manager's web GUI.
I try to stay away from MegaRAID as I don't understand it enough other than using some of Avid's CLI commands.
