    Synching interviews for audio

    Hi,

I've been given an interview to edit, where it's been shot on 2 cameras. How to set up things on the timeline so that the audio matches on both, and therefore the corresponding visuals too, and then (preferring one audio over the other) to simply cut between the visuals?

It's pretty easy.  Just find a common sync point on the cameras and group the clips.  Then cut the group on the timeline and edit it that way.  Let me know if you need more detailed instructions.  If they have matching time code, it's really easy.

I'm not on this just yet, so can't say for sure, though have been told that in FCP somehow it can do this automatically

It is an automatic process in MC as well. Select clips in bin, click Bin->Group, choose to group by source timecode. Done.

Thank you. But I don't know all that much about timecodes, etc.. I started with the lynda.com tutorials for Avid MC7, and it's excellent stuff, and along with a lot of help from this forum, I'd like to think I'm now beginning to do Ok. But still, timecodes just fox me. Can anyone point me towards a good gen-up article/video tutorial?
