Hello,
I have a HP Z800 workstation and was just looking through the quallified confinguration.
The Z800 has s 5650 6 core processors, which are on the list, and a Nvidia Quadro FX4800 graphics card, which is also on the list. However these two compenents are not quallified when used togehter.
It would seem that for the processors I have I should be using the Quadro 4000 graphics card in order to meet Avids quallified configuraion.
Will I notce any differecne if I chagne the graphics card? Does anyone know of a particular reason why these two components when used together are not quallified?
I have been using Media Composer on this machine for a few years now without any problems, until I upgraded to 8.2 and noticed a big drop in realtime performance.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks
Nick
Your rig is more than fine. I would suggest that Avid needs to do some housekeeping of MC to bring the performance back up. How much RAM do you have? I ask because I did notice that MC has started to gobble-up more memory these past releases (between its background tasks, QT bridge, App Manager and MC itself). I had 12 GB RAM on my rather old system until recently when I maxed it out to 24 GB - probably could use even more if I want to run Resolve at the same time... No budget for a new system this year.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I have 12GB RAM installed currently. I noticed that Avid seems to take more these days. I wondered about upgrading the RAM, I guess that would make more difference than trying to stick to a quallified configuration.
I'd agree. WHen new crates are qualified the current nvidia cards seem to be the ones tested and qualified.
We have a range of systems with a range of graphic cards from the newer K4000 cards down to FX3700 cards.
None of the editors can tell the difference when editing. And we've never really had any definitive information on just what is accelerated by the graphics card and how much difference an expensive card makes over a cheap card.
So based on that I'd stick with you card and up the RAM. Also an SSD for you boot will make a massive difference.

Hi Pat,
That's good to know, thanks. I have just re installed MC7 and I can now manage many more layers of HD than with 8.2
I think I will upgrade the RAM at some point but it does seem to me that there is an issue when it comes to realtime performance with 8.2... certainly on my system anyway.
