My SD footage was shot on AVCHD FX 24 Mbps  1920x1080 i

with an inspector thats reading  29.97 FPS

What should I use to format my project?

I did 1080i 59.97 ( which was the i option ) Ycbcr and my images are grainy

I then tried ( new project ) with 1080i 59.97 again but chose the RGB 709 and it threw my audio out of sync BUT THE ACTUAL VIDEO image was indeed looking like "live video"

I then tried ( new project ) 1080 P 29.97 YcbCr and imported it DNxHD 220 but the timeline has that green dot ( suggesting something is wrong ).

So, as a new student here: whats my correct project selection for this? and 2) what do I pick to import? (Can I bring them in under AMA and then trancode? Or do I import instead. Still, I then need to know which one to pick of the DNx avaialble choices.

Your project should be 1080i/59.94.  AMA link to the footage retaining the entire card structure and transcode to DNxHD 145.

(Be careful using the abbreviation SD, in this context it usually means Standard Definition.  Took a few reads to understand you meant an SD card.)
