    New imac

I am thinking about updating my Mac pro and my version of media composer. However, having gone into the apple store, they only had one mac pro tower amongst all the other hundreds of types macs. This makes me think they may be looking to phase them out of circulation.

I was wondering whether people use a top spec imac for the latest version of avid and whether it is reliable? I do run avid on a macbook pro as well, but I'd rather get something desktop, as laptops always seem to not last quite as well.

    Thanks for your help,

I upgraded to top 27 inch iMac back in May and MC runs great.  as a one man band, I'm not going back to the tower.

Apple has not updated the Mac Pros in some time, but did announce this summer that the line would be continued and new models will be offered in 2013.

Me too.  27" iMac and G-Raids.  I use one of the Thunderbolt ports to hook up an LCD tv for Full Screen Playback.

    Re: New imac

I recently helped a client spec and install a new edit system for his home.  We went with the iMac 27", Matrox MXO2 Mini (w/Thunderbolt) and MC v6

When the time comes to update my MacPro at home, I'm pretty sure I'll end up with an iMac.  Unless the new MacPros are "uh. may. zing"

    Re: New imac

I just upgraded from a 2008 tower to a 27 inch imac (top spec) very pleased with the performance with MC 6.5 for general editing work with light effects it really is all you need and for apple it is good value and in my case it paid for itself before the credit card bill came!

I also think it should be a very sellable machine should a new macpro come out next year.
