Saw V6.5 at IBC today (mainly there tio see Sphere)
Had great delight in filling in the V6.5 new features for an Avid rep who couldn't recall them all :-)
As I've mentioned in other lists I have great expectations for V6.5 as the past has shown .5 releases to be the golden ones.....

Hi,
price of upgrade from MC 6.0 is insane!!!!! Normally around £150. but now more than £400 - maybe Avid should be wearing balaclavas when they announce their prices! So much for loyalty...

Hey John, in your haste I think you may have dropped something:
"As I've mentioned in other lists I have great expectations for V6.5 as the past has shown .5 releases to be the golden ones....."
Golden for who :)

It must be a mistake. Its the same price to upgrade Symphony which is traditionally more. And it only costs £85 more to upgrade from any past version to 6.5
I am sure that by the end of the weekend they will realise their mistake and correct the prices.

John Mac you are right. I think to my self "Maybe its time to say good bye" . A lot of my friends presently have Adobe Premiere CS6 and Adobe After Effects CS6 and they says Adobe beats Avid. For freelancers and small postproduction companies Avid have no better choice and offer than Apple and Adobe and by the way, Avid is much expensive with lame proposal for integrated technical and finishing solves. Avid today sales unandorned software for big money without speculating what others companies makes to be cheaper, innovative, flexibles and quickest then Avid.
I am disappointed to, as you John.

Penso che abbandonerò Avid. Sto provando Edius e per me è molto meglio di Avid Media Composer.
I think I will give away Avid. I'm trying Edius and for me is much better than the Avid Media Composer.

We all need to band together on this one. The upgrade is not worth the price and we should implore Avid to have a rethink. It's only a matter of months since we paid them for the upgrade to 6.0.
This is not a major upgrade - more a case of giving us what we should have had in 60.
I hope they are reading this. Plus, here in the UK - while it's $500 in the US - we're being asked to pay the equivalent of around nearly $700.
I think a fair price is around £150 GBP
Let's hope they have a change of heart and realise that we've been with them for years!!!

Of that, you would need to blame at least 20% on your government then.
Even without the VAT the price is still too high. As I said, around £150 would be a fair price.
It's been a calander year since Avid released 6.0. If you just upgraded a few months ago, that really can't be factored in to their decision to relase .5 or pricing. A year between major releases has been established in theor timeline for several years now. Also, as it's been mentioned in other threads, Avid has programmers to pay. $500 a year to keep up a pro grade peice of software is only a days worht of billing for an editor. It's your choice to pay or not.
Just my two cents.
