    Strange Start-up problem

Last night, being lazy I guess, I closed down MC while I was in an 'Audio Workspace ' mode (of my own configuration).  I usually switch to the conventional Source/Record mode.  But not last night.

This morning, MC wouldn't load in ...n it hung and froze, patently with the Audio Workspace screen 'being constructed'.

I closed down, tried a different project, same result.  (Those who know me will know that at this point, panic is beginning to seep into the room...)

I tried several times, then tried by starting a new project.  It opened into my Audio Workspace - but with no captures/sequences present, obviously.

I switched to the Source/Record Workspace, closed that project and opened my current project ... all is well again.

Is this a known problem with MC?  Wouldn't it be best if MC always opened in the Source/Record Workspace irrespective of the Workspace it was in when closed down?  Could it be the way I have arranged the screen for the Audio workspace? (If so, why and how?).  Is it just another aberration and singularly peculiar to the things I manage to do here?

Don't feel alone Mike. My MC system was doing the same thing for a while. Then it stopped doing it.  Haven't a clue why. Sometimes devices seem to have a personality, a very temperamental personality.

    Re: Strange Start-up problem

Following on from all this, it is now apparent that my 'Audio Editing' Workspace has become totally corrupt.  MC goes into a non responsive lock-up loop whenever it is selected - making it unworkable, and it is impossible to use the menu item to 'Restore Current to Default' because of the lock up.  Is there any way to delete the Audio Editing workspace without invoking it first?

I'm not sure whether 'Audio Editing' is a standard MC Workspace that I've adapted, or whether I initiated it.

I do have the Audio workspace tied to a function key: pressing the key doesn't invoke the workspace any more.  Choosing it from the Workspace menu opens it up - but then I have the non-responsive problem described.

I too have been having problems with MC6 locking up when I enter the Audio editing workspace.  I discovered that when I closed the Audio Tool and saved the workspace without it opeening that all is well.  I have no idea why it is acting like this...

    Re: Strange Start-up problem

Thanks Camilo.  Unfortunately, I am not able to close the Audio tool - well not in the cuirrent project.  The whole Audio Woprkspace is frozen, or more accurately, spinning its wheels.

But thinking back, I was able to get back in once before by starting a new project at the launch of MC ... maybe I'll try that, and see if I can't get rid of the Audio Tool that way.

Several times though,  the Audio Punch In display opens as all white - that seems to be the problem area here, though cannot be sure.

How many more people does it need for it to be classified as a buig?

    Re: Strange Start-up problem

Nope.  Starting a new empty project didn't help.  In the Audio Workshop, I cannot access any Menu item, nor can I 'close' the Audio Tool, Audio Mixer, or Audio Punch-in windows.  In each case, result is the same - a brief white flash over all the screen, followed by the rotating blue circle.  Only way out is to close MC and start again.

I guess the only thing I can do until someone comes up with an answer is to open the Audio Punch in the main edit screen in when I need it, and ignore the other audio tools for now.

I'd try an uninstall/re-install (with the usual deactivate/activate process).  But, I rather imagine that ones settings for these things are kept intact somewhere (where???), and so re-installing will simply re-open the faulty settings folder - if that's what it is.

On my machine anyway, the Audio Workspace is definitely a no-go area.  I have removed the keyboard link to it to avoid inadvertent selection.

    Re: Strange Start-up problem

Should I re-post this with the latest problem - the Audio Editing Workspace is corrupted?

    Is there no work-around?

Would creating a new Audio Workspace solve the problem?  (I'm loathe to experiment with this - I have a habit of making things worse by so doing without guidance).

Don't repost.  Nobody will know all the troubleshooting steps you've taken or the background into how the problem happened.

It sounds like your user settings may be corrupt.  The way to find out for sure is to create a new user and see if you can open the audio workspace.  If you can, it's your user settings.  If you can't, it's something else.

    Re: Strange Start-up problem

OK. If no one else is seeing the problem of a corrupted Audio Workspace that requires MC to be closed down when selected (MC freezes seemingly trying to open all the elements), so it cannot be selected and deleted from the menu system - are there any clues as to how it can be deleted and replaced?

In the meantime I have created a 'new' workspace with just the audio punch-in element. When opened individually, the other audio elements seemk to work OK.  But not when opened in the MC Audio Workspace.

Patently, as no one else seems to be seeing this, it is something that has happened on my system alone, so I can appreciate that makes it difficult for anyone to comment on: but there must be a way to remove the Audio Workspace from the menu system and 'rebuild it', surely.  I mean ... MC can do anything and everything ... Big Smile
