I recevied some stock footage as FLV. Since MC can't import it directly, I converted it to an MOV in Sorenson first. The quality is terrible. Is there a better way to import FLV, or is it just a low quality format?
I have a fantastic editing assistant. He stays by my side when I edit...doesn't talk too much...and thinks I'm a genius! Check him out here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQVkYaaPO6g
Mov is a broad description, what codec was used ?
What size does the origin clip have ?

QT H.264. I transcode it to 1080p, since that is the resolution of my project in MC.

I'm not sure how to tell? I rarely use FLV.

You are encoding an already highly compressed file to another compressed format, encode to an Avid codec that will fast import instead.
And, what Avid codec to export to depends on the format of the origin clip, Mediainfo is your friend

Thanks, Tomas. I converted it again in Sorenson using the Avid codec and it is better...not great, but better.

In Squeeze 7, I don't see where I have much control of the Avid codec. It only gives the option to use Avid DNxHD, and the choice between RGB and 709

How can I find this out regarding the original FLV file? I can't open it in QT player and use the movie inspector. It only opens up on my computer using Adobe Media Player (which I am not familiar with) and does not seem to display the data regarding the file.

I'll keep tweaking the import until it is the best I can get it. FLV is not a great format to begin with, but your suggesitons have greatly improved the quality of the import. Thanks again for the quick response!
Hi Terry, and once you are able to tell me what mediainfo says I might be able to help you even better
