Error message when opening AMC6 then quits

I've just installed Avid Media Composer v6.0.1 for the first time and when I launch it the load screen appears but then I get this message:

    ErrLog_ForMC::ErrLog_ForMC()
                            Error
    [2315452454] unable to:

I can only click OK. So I do and it quits.

    These are my specs:

    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    IntelCore i7 860 @ 2.80GHz
    4GB RAM
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 240

    Hi,

Make sure your version of Quicktime is the one specified in the version matrix:

    http://avid.force.com/pkb/LegacySearch?DocId=267087

When you see the load screen, do you see any messages at the bottom of it before the error?

That's probably your problem.  Avid requires Win7 Professional.

Re: Error message when opening AMC6 then quits

    Hi,

I've installed Windows Ultimate 64-bit. Guessing this should work as well as win7pro. Then rebooted pc.

Then uninstalled AVC6, rebooted pc, then reinstalled AVC6 and rebooted for last time.

Opened AVC6 up and the same message appears at the same time. There are no error messages at the bottom of the load screen.

I'm running the latest version of quicktime pro. v7.7.1

    Hi,

In order to try and figure this out we need to know the rest of your system specifications.  Click on your user name at the top right of the forum and edit your profile to add your specifications (look at the bottom of this post for an example).

No need to "guess".  As Kenton previously posted:

"That's probably your problem.  Avid requires Win7 Professional"

Also, your video card is not supported.  What driver are you using?  Even a suported card, with the wrong driver, can crash.  First hand experience here.

Re: Error message when opening AMC6 then quits

I cannot see the difference between Pro and Ultimate as the reason to causing this error Randall, in that case more likely to little ram or uncorrect video card.

It would be interesting to know what other applications that are installed on this system and if the OS is installed clean or have been updated from another OS .

I was mostly commenting on "Guessing".  The required/qualified/supported OS is published, and Kenton had provided a link to The Matrix.  No need to guess.

Use the latest drivers from Nvidia.

    Go to C:Users>Public>Public Documents>Avid MediaComposer>Avid FatalErrorReports

and see what is in there. There would be some txt's for the problem.

Re: Error message when opening AMC6 then quits

Other applications that are installed on this system include:

    - Quicktime Pro 7.7.1
    - MacDrive 9 Standard
    - Avid License Control
    - Avid Media Composer
    - iTunes
    - Corel WinDVD Pro 11
    - Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007
    - Adobe AIR
    - uTorrent
    - WinRAR 4.01
    - Windows Live Essentials 2011
    - Apple Software Update
    - VLC media player 1.1.11
    - Celtx (2.9.1)
    - Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX
    - Google Chrome

There are other less significant programs but that's the core of them.

The OS is installed clean and all updates are up-to-date.

I'm using the latest driver from Nvidia.

Adid FatalErrorReports: These are the files:

    APPEVENT
    AVID_VDM_log__00
       through to
    AVID_VDM_log__09
    COREEVENT
    EVENTLOG

All the AVID_VDM_log__** files each have a different number. For example the last file "AVID_VDM_log__09" has the number  "20120220050116" when I open the txt file up.

The file COREEVENT has nothing in it.

The file EVENTLOG repeats this message 14 times:
    Murrow_Release_R26230 (Vista Media Composer 6.0.1)
20120220141623 Shutdown   Application is terminating normally

But as you have mentioned above, is it because I don't have the right graphics card? Can you be sure because I don't want to spend the money if it's not the right answer.

    Cheers.

Re: Error message when opening AMC6 then quits

Launch the task manager, shut down MacDrive, and see how you go.  While you're at it, kill off iTunes the same way and see if that helps.

I don't know whether VLC runs from Windows startup or not, but if it does kill that too.

It's most likely a conflict with other software rather than the fact that you're running W7 Ultimate or that you don't have the right graphics card.

That's seldom a good idea.  Microsoft updates have been known to break even Microsoft's own products in the past.  Avid specify a particular version of Windows with a particular set of updates, and it's smart to stick with them.  It would be a good idea to turn updates off, even if it is shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted.

Re: Error message when opening AMC6 then quits

I tried killing MacDrive and iTunes from taskmanager. VLC wasn't there.

No fix, I still get the error message.

It might help to mention my motherboard: Asus P7P55D-E PRO

ITunes on PC is known to cause problems, might be rather easy to uninstall it and do a test.

I am using latest MacDrive Pro myself without any problems.

Corel might sometimes get in conflicts with Avid Dvd but I don´t think that it can cause a conflict with MC.

To uninstall iTunes is my first recommendation if for nothing else so for to remove some question marks.
