We've got a Blackmagic Design Hyperdeck Shuttle. We've recorded some uncompressed Quicktime clips and some MXF Clips that should be recorded using DNxHD 185 / 220.
We are able to open the QT clips with the AMA Plugin - but what to do with the MXF clips?
We can't open them using AMA nor import them.
Right now I'm a little bit confused and can't see the point I missed....
Anyone to give me a hint?
With best regards - M.
P.S.: I tried it with MC 6.0 and 5.5.2....

Hi,
have you already installed the AMA MXF plugin?
Beside this I´m very curious about the shuttle, could you upload a small clip in DNxHD if possible? As I have already installed the MXF plugin, I could test it here as well.
Best regards,
Kristina
You could also try making another folder within the avid media files/mxf folder, copy all mxf clips there. Then open MC, media tool look for those clips and copy to a new bin.
OK - AMA Plugins are installed:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
AMA PLUG-IN NAME COMPANY NAME VERSION
MSP_MXF Plug-In Avid Technology, Inc. 1.5
QuickTime Plug-In Avid Technology, Inc. 1.2
But when I try to link to a AMA file, I get this message:
------ AMA Link To File(s) ------
Currently, this media is not supported since the MOGSDK can not get the essence descriptor from the source package.
[ Plugin Name = MSP_MXF Plug-In Avid Technology, Inc. Version = 1.5 ] could not process F:\Capture0004V.mxf
[ Plugin Name = QuickTime Plug-In Avid Technology, Inc. Version = 1.2 ] does not support F:\Capture0004V.mxf

THAT'S IT!!!!
Hurray! I owe you one!

There's a 200mb / 10sec one here on the cow.
Thanks a lot Trevor
Interesting to see this thread as I just read about this device today in Sound and Communications magazine. Looks nice.
What size drive do you have in it?
Personally I wish it also had the interface to the computer so you could capture directly through USB 3 or Thunderbolt while you record to the drive.

We use a 240GB disc - the new hyperdeck shuttle firmware allowes you to record using the DNxHD 185X (PAL) or 220X (NTSC) codec. We have an additional USB 3.0 docking station which is attached to the editor for the SSD - so not having the direct link is ok - you can work with your editor while you record on the hyperdeck.
And: if you know how to get the files in your systems - it's done within seconds
I have to mention one thing: the SSD's have to use HFS+As we just have W7 editing stations a windows native filesystem would be better, but anyway...

I'm sorry, it's not obvious, but was this clip recorded with the HyperDeck Shuttle? The material in the clip is an edited program, which leads me to think it's a render out of the Avid, which is not the same as a record on the deck (unless its a play out of the Avid to a HyperDeck Shuttle, which would be okay).
Please clarify.
Thanks,

It was a straight pass on of a creative cow link... I think it was supposed to be a shuttle capture
"For anyone who would like to try his best in converting the MXF files created by Hyperdeck here is a 10 second clip, that was recorded by a Hyperdeck Studio in DNxHD mode."

Can I ask how long the break in record is when you swap disks in the shuttle?
thanks

@Job: No - as we speak, it just supports QT 10 Bit uncompressed OR DNxHD 185/220 X. The firmware is still "Beta" so maybe we see something else in a view days - but I think, they will not implement a lower bitrate. They like their 10bit approach too much, to use a codec which can't support this feature (my opinion).
The popular Avid DNxHD is a SMPTE standard codec that's used by thousands of broadcast and post production facilities worldwide as it maintains the highest 10-bit video quality with the advantage of smaller file sizes.
@Trevor: I didn't try this - I just need to record a 1h show. But I think, you would need 5 to 10 seconds max. They have the Hyperdeck Studio which allows you to use 2 SSD's - you can swap one disc after the other and have no break - costs about $995.
We run some tests with the device and right now we are really happy with it. Works like a charm.
Thanks. Does it play back MXF files generated in MC? Could I use it as a portable playback device?
