    Re: TMPGEnc issue

    Hi Nick,

I have been on a rough road with this issue for the past few months. I have been in contact with the Pegasys support who have found that there is an incompatibility with XD decode and TMPGEnc VMW5 Quicktime 7 reader but have not given me any concrete plan of action on a fix.

If you can beg/borrow/steal a working TMPGEnc Xpress 4 license, you may have a solution as I had no problems decoding the QTRef/XD files before the upgrade to VMW5. The truly annoying aspect of this whole problem is that Pegasys will not sell you a license to this version. I am in the particularly frustrating situation where I lost my working Xpress license by upgrading to VMW5 - now Pegasys will not reenable by old license or even sell it back to me - and have stopped responding to my support requests. It appears that all the complaints about Pegasys support are not without justification.

    Re: TMPGEnc issue

    Hi,

It's good to know that it's not something I'm doing wrong or an issue on my computer. Hopefully Pegasys will release a fix, it would really speed up my workflow if they did!!!

    Thanks

Most likely they had a redistribution agreement with a specific software element within ver 4 that was not continued in ver 5. They would not be able to further sell anything containing that element.

    TVJohn:

Most likely they had a redistribution agreement with a specific software element within ver 4 that was not continued in ver 5. They would not be able to further sell anything containing that element.

The explanation I was given was that their license server was no longer issuing keys for Xpress 4. They do offer an upgrade option that allows the Xpress 4 license to keep working but I stupidly decline it - this is a decision that does not appear to be reversible after the upgrade. I can understand that things are never as simple as they seem but there appears to be no flexibility in their position at all - and in the meantime, I'm stuck with a very slow workflow.

You don't happen to have any suggestions for a reasonably-priced H264/AVC encoder that accepts Quicktime Reference files with temporal compression, do you?

    Re: TMPGEnc issue

A quick update on this issue: it has not been fixed in TMPGEnc Video Master Works 5.1.1.52 which was released last week and there is no news from support on an ETA for a fix; from past experience, the next release won't be until early-to-mid 2012.

I can't even begin to express the joy I feel when I know I own a license to this wonderful encoder.
