For upgrading my MC from pre 5 to 5.5 I should deactivate my Software in Avid - but it do not work. I have to contact the service bot there is no chance to find a person in Service dep.Can anybody help?
The is the procedure you should have followed:Deactive your software license (special menu in Composer)
Uninstall old version of MC.
Install MC 5.5.1
Reactivate your software license using your existing System ID and the NEW serial number provided to you with the purchase of 5.5.1.
Each version of Media Composer is an entity unto itself. You will never install a new version without first uninstalling the old one. What did you actually do, step by step?

Mr Rubin,Upgrading from MC 5 to new MC 5.5. I have dongle & use Win XP Pro SB3 32bit on HP xw8400. All is working just need to upgrade to MC 5.5.
Problem:Unable to deactivate my current installation of MC 5.0.I open AVID MC 5.0 and then I open up a working project per the AVID installation guide instructions. When I go to the "Special" menu dropdown the "Deactivate Software License" item remains dim. So I can not able to deactivate my software to upgrade. Please advise how to deactive. As I understand it, this is a necessary step.As I understand it, I must deactivate so I can re-activate my dongel with AVID MC 5.5 upgrade installation.
Please help and THANK YOU.

If you are running a dongle, there is no software license to deactivate. It's either one or the other, but never both. Either you run on a dongle or you have a software license. So in your case, you will run the dongle manager app in your utilities folder to update your dongle to 5.5.

My answer was
Your Avid Application manager should have an update link showing in it. Clicking that should take you to the right place. You should also log in to your Avid "My Account" to see the details of your Licence.
Marianna posts in the Announcements and FAQ's of this forum http://community.avid.com/forums/376.aspx should give you a lot of information if you have issues. Also these two pinned posts in that forum, http://community.avid.com/forums/t/134125.aspx and http://community.avid.com/forums/t/136871.aspx may help.
