    Mixing frame rates?

I could have sworn this can be done (im sure it can, i must have missed a step) Trying to import a 60 frame into a 30 frame project, tells me i can not. I am using MC 5. (academic version)

Create a 60 frame project and import your 60 frame content there. Then, use the "open bins" function inside your 30 frame project to open the bin from the 60 frame project. The system will apply a timewarp algorithm to the 60 frame content to convert it.

…Hi Larry: Uh no, it's not supposed to work like that. Yes, this is a valid *work around,* but you shouldn't have to do this. You should be able to open a 23.976 project, and import true 24p, along with 59.94 i clips and mix them altogether along with 1080 and 720p clips and SD clips on the same timeline. Why ? Because the Avid MC online manual says you can, but it does not work like the manual states it does. I have found it to be a hit and miss kind of performance. Sometimes I have had to manually convert clips to the project format settings altogether to make it work at all on the timeline. I have also experienced choppy, studdery motion while editing in a 23.976p project (HD 1080), when mixing in 1080 30p clips.

Larry, while i got you here, i have another question, ive been having a heck of a time capturing hdv (JVC GY-HD200, through firewire) as soon is i hit record in the capture tool, i get a "Caputre abotted due to lack of progress" but there is not lack of progess i can control my vtr through the capture tool perfect. then as soon as i hit record i get that error.

I've seen this before and it's normally an issue with the capture resolution or frame rate not matching the actual DV stream coming down the firewire. Sometimes it''s the avid end set wrong but I've even had it with the camera having been set to downconvert from HDV to DV by mistake.

    Check everything matches.

Can you point to a particular page of the manual that's wrong?  I can let the right people know something needs to be fixed if I have something more specific.

I've also seen capture aborted due to lack of progress errors when only marking in on the capture tool and leaving the out point undefined.

ahhhh, i didnt even know i had to mark in and out on the capture tool, just thought i could hit "record" and thats it. also i noticed the timecode caption on the capture tool does not count down (or up) its frozen, as is the green timecode indicator, which is suppose to be blinking. i did eventually capture something but when i played it back it was in slo-mo and out of sync
