Hi Editors:
I have been reading that Avid has an automatic registry Win XP Pro tuner, which will optimize XP to run well for MC. I understand this registry tweaker to be called WinXP_Optimize_v3.reg . Where can I get this program ?

Hi,
Where can i get WinXP_Optimize_v3.reg ? I need this for my old MC 5.5 on window XP
thks
Look in your MC 5.5 installer package or run a search on your computer for that file. I don't think you really need it, though. I never saw an improvement after applying those registry changes.

Saving a restore point before making the changes is an option but I still wouldn't go to the trouble unless there was a compelling reason, such as actually having trouble which those changes would fix.
Good tip, and yes: the tweak was far too aggressive, while not bringing obvious benefits.

If you're able to, why don't you run your MC 5.5 on Win7 64 bit?
I had a Symphony 5.5 setup on a HP XW8400 which regularly ran out of memory when working on HD projects. I bit the bullet and upgraded the OS to Win7/64, doubled the memory to 8Gbyte and everything ran more smoothly with no memory problems. Despite the fact that MC 5.5 is a 32 bit program it ran far better in a 64 bit environment.

Other programs (e.g. the OS) and data can use the addition available memory.
