I keep getting this message and have been having problems working with AMA footage.
I have about 500GB of EX3 footage I'm using AMA to link to. Everything is on an internal drive. I get the message above and sometimes there are various blue horizontal bars running across the video frame. I'm nearly at the end of the project so it's really not plausible to transcode although I'm reading that may or may not fix my problem. Is there another software update fix for Mac after 5.0.3? One more thing, this project is going to end up on 6 screens so there are a lot of PIP going on as well. It seems that MC goes a bit nutty when I'm adding, moving, clips on the video tracks. Sometimes I just move a track up from say V2 to V3 and other times I'm just duplicating a clip for all 6 tracks. Not sure if this is related, but I should be able to do this correct? Thanks
DL
Add this message into the problems.
Failed to get the sample temporal offset from the AMA plugin.
I'm pretty sure this means AMA doesn't really work as the marketing states it does.
Please tell me I'm wrong.
Now add in "Disk too MANY OPEN"
Very frustrating!
I'm going to try some video mixdowns.
Hi!
I think that nobody will answer you, because this error appears REGULARLY on Macs without any conjunction to amount of material, configuration of discs, how complicated is your edit or whatever.
The same thing happens to my Mac, but I feel that when I've installed version 5.0.3.7(which is quite stabile), it happens rarely. But still it happens. I've heard that the problem is not in Media Composer but in Leopard (it never happens on PC comps)...
We'll see what will be with version 5.5...
Thanks for answering.
I actually ended up having to call in Avid support to find out that MC 5.03.8 will help. It's not too easy to find on this site but it's here. It's called an editors patch, which is deceiving since all patches would seem to be so. Not sure what the other patches that are easily found within the download center are called, maybe they are assistant editors patches.
Anyway, so far so good. I only had one error message thus far and it did not cause the crashing problem I had earlier. So Great Job Avid Engineers!!!
Avid web people, not so much. I suggest that Avid should send out emails letting us editor in on where those patch updates are and when they are posted. That would be wonderful. You can place a link in those marketing emails we get.
Thanks again Avid Engineers. You guys rock.
So the problem was fixed and the Avid engineers rocked. That was last week.
Now I'm getting the same problem again. I loaded the editors patch 5.0.3.8 and it was working until today. That is it worked or seemed to work Friday.
This has been the most bipolar Avid MC has been for me. One day it works and the next it doesn't. To catch anyone up on my situation, I have about 500GB of EX3 footage that I'm linking to via AMA. EX3 footage usually works just fine, but this project has given me a run. I can mixed down the tracks and play but I do need to edit this sequence. So this is a problem.
Also I've noticed MC does not want to save once I get the DISK TOO MANY OPEN error. The machine just chimes when I hit return.
I was told by Avid Tech support or Customer Satifaction, that the new build should work. I was also told that AMA works as stated. I asked if I should have transcoded all my files and TS said there was no need that AMA works just fine. I jsut haven't seen it work so fine yet.
I will call Tech support tomorrow to see if they have any thing else up their sleeves to make AMA work. At this point, I'm kind of stewed since my client is coming in at 3pm tomorrow as well.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
I'm running:
Mac 3ghz 2 X Quad Core, 8GB ram, MC 5.0.3.8.
Sorry, I can't help you. The only one advice which i can give U is to transcode only this clips which you have in your sequence, but probably it will be about 80% of your rushes....
Hey! Is there anyone from Avid who can say WHAT'S GOING ON? Even if it's an unresolved problem in this version SAY IT!
In case anyone wants to know. It seems we have fixed the problem again. Fingers crossed.
Thanks to Avid Support. It was a simple trashing of the MC state preferences. Jeez. I know these things, but often forget to trash the simplest prefs.
Now I can PIP in peace. Thanks again ATS.
