Help! ScriptSync is crashing my system

I've used ScruptSync extensively with MC 3.xx and 4.xx but now that I have upgraded to 5.0 and Win7, I have a problem. I can drag a clip over a selected area of text in a script, it pops up the usual dialog box and starts to show progress on the pgrogress bar, but within 2 seconds it freezes and displays "Avid Editor has stoped working". Event Name: APPCRASH  Fault Module Name: PhoneticIndex.apx  Exception Code: c0000005.

Any scripts I synched with the old system work fine.

Bump... is anyone else using Scriptsync? Did something change with MC v5? Or is there a conflict with Win7? I de-activated my license and then re-entered the activtion code, trashed MC State and settings but no luck. Now am trying MC 5.03 installation, but the ReadMe doesn't say anything about any ScriptSync fixes.

I intalled MC5.03 and now instead of crashing I get "An ACCESS_VIOLATION exception occurred. The error report shows

Access violation? Maybe this has something to do with drive permissions?

Bump again... This is still a big problem. I have tried everything. I must be the only person in the world experiencing this.

Re: Help! ScriptSync is crashing my system

There are many crashes when a bin is in "Script" mode, and using the scroll button on your mouse... I wonder if the ScriptSync crashes you are experiencing are related to it.

It's a shot in the dark, but try to drag 'n drop your clip (from a bin to ScriptSync), while the bin is in "text" mode.  (I've also changed the background colour of my bins as well... seems to help)

Also try to avoid using the scroll button on your mouse... use the slider on the side of the window.

    Hope this helps.

I'm having the same issue!  Have you found an answer?  Much appreciated...

Yeah the only answer I found is to do the syncing on an old (MC2.8) system on a different workstation and then take  the scynced script back to my MC5 workstation for editing. That's a pain but it works. Obvoiusly also requires two systems which is overkill for something that should just work. Hopefully this is an Avid problem that will be fixed in future software updates...?

I tried everything I could think of on my Win7 64-bit MC5 system with no luck. This is progress?

Are you on Win 7 64 bit with MC5? What are your system specs?

I'm having the same issue.  Any word on a real fix?  I don't have any systems earlier than 5.

Marianna... can anything be done about ScriptSync problem?

I don't want to get another thread going on this but I did start one a few weeks ago and no one seems to know what to do. Since I posted it, a couple more people have said they have the same problem. Is this a known problem?

    Hi Rick,

Rather than start a new thread, I'll join this post to the existing thread.  All of this activity will bump it back to the top of the list.  If we can get some consistent reports (i.e. Details about versions being used and the specifications of systems they're being used on with a description of exactly what causes the problem) we'll escalate it for Avid to take a look.

So, for those of you experiencing the same issue as Rick describes in the original post, what version(s) are you running, and what are the specifications of the systems you're running them on?  (Look at the bottom of my post for an example of system specs.)

    ciao,

You'll need to supply very specific info on how to recreate the issue.

What's the version of the editor, the version of the OS, the version of QT?

What language are you scanning in ScriptSync? How long is the script you are using?

Re: Help! ScriptSync is crashing my system

Most of my details are listed above.

MC5.03, Win7 64 bit, QT 7.66, Scanning in English, have tried various length scripts. As stated above, it wil begin to scan and then stop and display an error message (see above for error message details). In MC5.0 prior to updating to 5.03, it did not display an error message, it just froze the system.

The system that IS working is MC2.8, Win 7 64 bit, scanning in English, short and long scripts.
