    Laptop Nvidia Drivers

    hey guys

just got the "supported" HP 8740w laptop with win7 64bit pro.  Installed MC5 and the patches,

but now unsure about the graphics drivers.   All my desktop machines its easy just to install

the included quadro drivers from avid, but on this laptop if i attempt to install the avid driver it

complains about not finding any possible match or something.   I see this is problem because

the graphics card is the FX3800m.   M standing for Mobile.

am i missing something?  do we just use the standard drivers?

have many avids all different, so cant post all specs... will rather say as required. KEEP THE DONGLE [view my complete system specs]

    Re: Laptop Nvidia Drivers

This is one of the pains of laptop nVidia drivers, the stock drivers will not install because the laptop expects the driver to come from an OEM, in your case HP. Luckily there is help at hand. Go to laptopvideo2go.com. Read around the site to find out what they do and find the correct .inf file for your nvidia card and HP machine, it takes some finding, when you unzip the nvidia driver (whichever one you choose) you replace the .inf file with the "hacked" .inf and the driver will install and work fine. I done this on an HP 8730w.

Oh. BTW, do check the HP site and see if they have the driver you need first.

The supported driver will not install on mobile Quadro, but MC (tested with version 4) worked with wichever driver shipped with the laptop, I don't know if it uses the card to its full potential however.

    Re: Laptop Nvidia Drivers

I find it odd that Avid (spec list)  and a forum mod are telling me to install

the avid supported driver....  which clearly wont install because im on a quadro mobile card.

....  and all this because i bought an Avid spec machine  (which was insanely expensive)  :)

    Re: Laptop Nvidia Drivers

I have the same problem on my lenovo thinkpad. But when I overwrite the inf file with the one from laptovideo2go, I still get the "no compatible hardware found" message, and setup terminates.

Sorry.  You asked where to find info about what drivers go with what version, and I didn't look closely at your setup to notice you were running a mobile card.

Are you having an actual problem playing back video?  I ask because my system's got a mobile card and I've never bothered to mess around with the video card drivers; it just works.  If your system is playing video without any problems, I'd leave it alone.
